Summary
In 670, Umayyads of Damascus completed the first Islamic conquest of the North African coastal plain, settling in what is now Morocco. Since then, Arabs have ruled this region, which includes the original Berber tribal groups of North Africa, some of whom were Christians before the Arab invasion. This cultural mix resulted in scholarly advances in science, mathematics, astronomy, geography and medicine.
Obstacles
Although Morocco allows people from other faiths to have religious freedom, the king of Morocco has declared that all native Moroccans are Sunni Muslims. Historically, ministry in Morocco drew individuals away from their families and gathered them into new churches. As a result, many view Christianity as a threat to their families and communities.
Pray for p g
Pray the Holy Spirit would work powerfully through the many people witnessing to the Moroccan Arabs. Pray Moroccan Arab believers would become effective and fruitful in sowing God's word among their families and communities to fuel a movement of God's blessing, spreading from household to household. Pray a strong movement to Jesus would bring whole Moroccan Arab families and communities into a rich experience of God's blessing.

Summary
The Shilha Berbers are a poor but proud people. They are tough and hard working, scratching out a meager existence in a part of the world that is physically antagonistic to an agricultural society. Most are farmers and shepherds. Some have now left their poor, overpopulated valleys, in hopes of finding a better life in the northern cities of Morocco.
Obstacles
Morocco is closed to Christian missionaries. Creative means to minister to these people are necessary.
How reach
Although the Shilha are Muslim, their religion is mingled with spiritism and mysticism. This blended religion has created a curiosity and yearning to know more about their god, which is an opening for the good news about Jesus.
Pray for church
There are some believers among the Shilha Berbers. Pray these believers will be rooted and established in love.
Pray for p g
Pray for adequate health care for these people living in rural areas, and for educational opportunities for the youth.

Summary
The word "Rif" is an Arabic word meaning "the edge of cultivated area." The Northern Shilha of Algeria and Morocco, known as the "Rif Berbers," have numerous tribes of tough and hardened people eking out an existence on the harsh, uninviting slopes of the Rif Mountains. Berbers are indigenous to north Africa west of the Nile River, the largest concentration in Morocco.
Obstacles
Morocco is quite difficult to enter for Christian workers. There is a need for creative approaches. Practical needs abound in this difficult region. May they be met with disciples bringing resources and education to Rif Berbers.
How reach
The JESUS Film, God's Story video, and gospel radio are available in the language of the Rif Berbers.
Pray for p g
Pray for an abundant harvest this year from the Rif Berbers as a sign of God's caring heart and power. Pray for the Rif Berbers to have hearts that are willing to seek and find Jesus Christ. Pray that disciples, passionate for the salvation of Rif Berbers, would lay down their lives for them. Pray that the JESUS Film and audio materials would be used effectively among them. Pray for fruitful efforts to make disciples and plant churches among Rif Berbers.

Summary
Greek, Roman and Phoenician texts make reference to the forerunners of the Berber peoples, located in the eastern portion of Egypt. "Berber" is a generic name given to numerous heterogeneous ethnic groups who share similar cultural, political and economic practices. Contrary to the romantic, popular image that portrays Berbers as nomadic people who cross the desert on camels, their main activity is sedentary agriculture. Today, significant Berber income comes from the large number of immigrants in Europe, especially in France.
Obstacles
Morocco is not an easy place for Christians to enter, and to work.
How reach
Perhaps Berbers working in Europe will encounter Spirit-filled Christians, those who seriously follow Christ, and who will be able to assist Berbers as they also seek Christ.
Pray for church
Pray for the followers of Jesus who will soon be apparent among the Filala Berbers, that they will clearly understand and rest upon the Gospel of grace, not mixing it with the requirement to do good works. Pray they will understand the need to live obediently to Christ, as a result of his forgiveness and presence within.
Pray for p g
Pray for the Berbers to provide adequately for their families. Pray that the indigent, the widow and orphan, may be cared for.

Summary
The term "Moor" is generally applied to any person, regardless of skin color, who speaks one of the Hassaniya dialects. Therefore, there are both black and white Moors who speak the same language. The Moors are primarily farmers. However, the Black and White Moors of Morocco are relatively urbanized and work in various trades. This has caused the traditional structures of Moorish society to change considerably. The Moors are a very proud people, conveying a sense of superiority to others in the area. Parents pre-arrange marriages, with the groom's father requesting the hand of the bride. A Moorish woman does not marry against her family's wishes.
Obstacles
There has been little response to the gospel among the Moors. So few have accepted Christ in Morocco that they will need to hear the gospel from people outside their trusted community.
How reach
There are many resources in their language including the JESUS Film. These can be given to them or downloaded from a computer.
Pray for p g
Pray for an abundant harvest among the Moors in Morocco this year as a testimony of his goodness and power. Pray for spiritual hunger among the Moors, especially among their leaders and decision-makers. Pray for the Holy Spirit to thrust out faithful workers to the Moors in Morocco. Pray for a Disciple Making Movement among the Moors that will spread throughout north and western Africa.

Summary
The Yahia Bedouins live in Saharan Morocco. Men tend to the camels while the women and children care for the sheep and goats and gather brushwood for fires. Women spin and weave clothes and tent fabrics. Their clothing is vibrant red and orange with multi-colored beads, with some silver jewelry and semi-precious stones. Their diet comes mainly from their herds: milk, yoghurt and butter, accompanied by rice. They only eat meat on special occasions. Bedouins are renowned for their hospitality and courage as well as oral poetry traditions, recited by the men. Nowadays the younger generation is leaving traditional nomadic life, moving to and working in cities, thereby significantly impacting their culture.
Obstacles
Their nomadic lifestyle in a harsh geographical environment creates an additional challenge to those who won't share this lifestyle.
How reach
As the younger generation move to urban areas, outreach opportunities will become easier. Local believers can find opportunities to reach them using the Yahia language. Believers can use social media, films, radio and TV in their language.
Pray for p g
Pray their changing circumstances would create a new openness and opportunities for them to know the love of Jesus. Pray for a massive movement to Christ among the Bedouin peoples this decade. Pray for dignity and justice for the Bedouin peoples who are often marginalized and discriminated against by the wider society.

Summary
After the arrival of Islam in the 800s, the Senhaja Berbers spread across northwest and western Africa. In the mid-1200s, a group of Muslim tribes united into a confederacy, eventually helping to establish the nation of Morocco. Today, most Senhaja Berbers in Morocco live in the Middle Atlas Mountains. Most are farmers. Those of higher status can become Muslim teachers.
Obstacles
While freedom of religion is supposedly supported by the Moroccan constitution, converting to Christianity usually results in rejection by families and communities. Proselytizing for anything other than Sunni Islam can be punishable by up to three years i
How reach
Humanitarian aid and occupational training could be a way to engage with and relate to the Senhaja Berbers. If the very few Christians among them are identified, they could be trained in evangelism and church planting to be more effective in reaching thei
Pray for church
Pray for the Lord to move in the hearts of the Senhaja Berbers. Pray for the believers among them to be bold and loving in sharing their faith. Pray for families and communities to put their trust in Jesus and for God's church to be established.

Summary
A sub-group of the Moors, the Sahrawi are of mixed Berber, Arab, and black African descent. Originally, the Sahrawi were desert nomads who traveled from place to place with their camels. Many Sahrawi have gotten caught in the fighting and have fled to refugee camps in Morocco. Others have remained in Western Sahara. These people face constant danger from the Moroccan army and the Polisaro guerillas. Women and children have fled to refugee camps and depend on special programs for basic necessities.
Obstacles
The Sahrawi live in an area of war and political turmoil. As a result, families have been divided, and many have been displaced in refugee camps. Where there is turmoil, there is a barrier to people moving about and sharing the gospel.
How reach
Yet turmoil also opens people to look for new spiritual answers. Jesus offers the Sahrawi true holiness and power.
Pray for p g
Pray for peace in the Western Sahara. Ask God for the formation of Bible believing churches among this people group in Morocco. Pray that the Sahrawi would come to see Jesus Christ as the Prince of Peace and flee to him for refuge. Pray for Christ's ambassadors to go to these Muslims, bearing the sin-forgiving savior.

Summary
The Uregu Berbers are one of the smaller Berber tribes who live in the southeastern part of Morocco. Berber society is primarily made up of farmers and merchants. As with other descendants of Subsaharan Africa, the Uregu Berbers are sometimes marginalized within Moroccan culture. Close knit Berber clans adhere to traditional customs, giving communities a strong sense of identity and loyalty. Most Berbers are Sunni Muslim, but many also believe in the presence of spirits called jinn.
Obstacles
Berber communities tend to be remote and socially isolated, making evangelism challenging.
How reach
Believers can make disciples among the Berbers who have migrated to Moroccan towns and cities. They will be more effective at sharing the gospel in remote Berber communities.
Pray for p g
Ask the Lord of the harvest to send laborers to the Uregu Berbers. Pray for the Holy Spirit to reveal Jesus through dreams and visions. Pray that tribal leaders and influential persons would receive Jesus and be able to impact the larger community with the gospel. The Berbers proudly call themselves the Amazigh, which means the "free people." Pray that they would discover true freedom through Jesus Christ.

Summary
The Berbers lived in North Africa long before the arrival of the Arabs and Islam, and had a Christian heritage. Between the 11th and 13th centuries, two great Berber dynasties - the Almoravids and the Almohads - controlled large parts of Spain, as well as north-west Africa. In Morocco, about 40% acknowledge a Berber identity, though many more have Berber ancestry. Many Berber children drop out of school because they are taught in what, to them, is a foreign language - Arabic.
Obstacles
The Berbers have been removed from the Christian faith for many centuries, and are not likely to quickly learn the ways of Christ.
How reach
Christians need to find ways to build friendships and trust with the ancient Berber peoples.
Pray for church
There are few followers of Jesus among the Zekara Berbers. Pray they would find each other and faithfully fellowship together, becoming firmly established upon the truths of Scripture.
Pray for p g
Pray the Berbers of Morocco would once again find the faith of many of their ancestors, faith in Jesus Christ the Son of God.

Summary
We often talk about people groups who haven't had the opportunity to hear the gospel. In this case, it is the literal truth. The Deaf living in Morocco find themselves without many opportunities, spiritual or otherwise. Morocco doesn't have many resources for this community. As a result, the vast majority of Deaf children (about 85 percent) don't attend school. The school system can't provide the materials or the staff to help Deaf learn. Therefore, Deaf throughout Morocco—no matter their age—face similar challenges. While there is a Moroccan sign language, they are forced to teach themselves this language via videos and internet sites. There is a need for special schools for the Deaf in Morocco. Compassionate believers can fill this void.
Obstacles
Like the rest of the population in Morocco, the majority of the Deaf follow Islam. With no Scriptures available in Moroccan Sign Language, they have few opportunities to find out about the Savior.
Pray for p g
Pray for the Deaf in Morocco to have the chance to understand and respond to the gospel. Pray for gospel materials to be produced in Moroccan Sign Language. Pray for the Deaf in Morocco to be blessed with the joy and peace offered by the Lord of lords.

Summary
The Harratine of Morocco live in southern oasis towns at the very edges of the Sahara. However, they are said to originally come from further south, in sub-Saharan Africa. It is believed their ancestors were at one time captured and taken north by slave traders, but were abandoned in Morocco. These ancestors found small plots of land on which to settle near desert oases. The people have found employment as day laborers and in various manual trades. The jewelry and adornment of Harratine women is bold, rich and colorful. Leather, shell, coins and glass are typical of the pieces worn by these ladies.
Obstacles
Access to the Moroccan Harratine people by outsiders would be challenging.
How reach
Pray for good quality Christian radio to be widely available throughout Morocco in many languages. Pray the language of the Harratine people would be included.
Pray for church
There are likely no followers of Jesus today among the Harratine people.
Pray for p g
Pray the Harratine would be given a strong desire to find forgiveness for their sin and that at the proper time they would learn accurately of the Savior, Jesus. Pray also for adequate rainfall, pure drinking water and improved medical care for the people.

Summary
The Regeibat comprise several tribes of Bedouin nomads in the interior of the country. They are a subgroup of the Moors, an Arab-Berber people. Slavery has been abolished but may still be practiced in some areas. Slavery has brought attention to the injustices and inequalities tolerated by traditional Moor society.
Obstacles
The Regeibat live in an area of limited access, both geographically and because of attitudes.
How reach
Pray for workers needed to sow God's Word into Regeibat families, healing and strengthening households with God's blessings.
Pray for church
Pray the few believers among the Regeibat will grow in sharing and discussing God's Word with their families and communities. Pray they will be accurately instructed in the faith, and that they will be strengthened by the Holy Spirit to live holy lives.
Pray for p g
Pray that each individual in the Regeibat people group may hunger to know forgiveness for their sins found only through faith in Jesus Christ, and that this hunger will soon be satisfied.

Summary
Most Shawiya in Morocco are shepherds and farmers. Their staple crops include grains and fruits that are cultivated in the mountains. Along the edge of the desert, they live as nomads, migrating between the highlands and the desert. They primarily raise sheep and goats, and most also have a few mules and donkeys. During the winter, they move their herds to the warm plains, then to higher pastures during the spring and summer months. Shawiya villages consist of close-knit, extended family groups, which trace their ancestry through male lineage. Many of the villages are located on the crests of hills. Although they move frequently, the Shawiya never leave the villages unattended. A few people stay behind to guard the granaries and to plant crops.
Obstacles
There are probably no Christ followers among the Shawiya Berbers in Morocco to tell them about the only savior.
How reach
However, Berber peoples are less committed to Islam than other peoples in North Africa, and some from other tribes are Christian believers. The JESUS Film and the Magdalena movie are in their minority language.
Pray for p g
Pray for Shawiya Berbers to put their faith and hope in Christ, paving the way for a Disciple Making Movement. Pray for a spiritual hunger among Shawiya Berbers that will lead them to the cross and the empty grave. Pray for workers to go to the Shawiya and find persons of people who will welcome them into their communities with the gospel of peace.

Summary
Most of the remaining Jewish people in Morocco are elderly. They are trying to maintain their traditional culture and language. It's very possible that there won't be Jews in Morocco by the end of this century.
Obstacles
Moroccan Jews tend to view Christianity as the religion of their oppressors rather than the fulfillment of God's promise to their people and all tribes of the earth.
How reach
Visual Bible resources like the JESUS Film may be useful in reaching this people group.
Pray for p g
Pray for the Lord to move among Jewish leaders in Morocco to open the doors to Christ's ambassadors. Pray for the Lord to give the Jewish people in Morocco hearts that will want to please him. May they look to the Lord for guidance and truth, and not be satisfied with cultural traditions. Pray for Jewish people in Morocco to begin a movement to Jesus Christ, finding ways to exalt him while honoring their culture.

Summary
The name Berber comes from an Arabic name for the aboriginal people west and south of Egypt. Berber is a generic name given to numerous ethnic groups who share similar cultural, political and economical practices. The arabization of the Berber people happened in three stages, the third stage taking place between the 15th and 17th centuries. Their main vocation is settled agriculture, not nomadic wanderings.
Obstacles
To follow Christ causes a Berber to risk much. Losing one's place in family and society is not a trivial loss, and physical danger may be involved.
How reach
Pray for the Lord to raise up a strong disciple making movement to saturate the hearts and minds of this people group. Gospel radio broadcasts will be helpful in this remote region.
Pray for church
There may presently be no followers of Christ within this Berber people group, but pray for those who will soon develop. Pray they will be joyful always, praying continually, and giving thanks in all circumstances.
Pray for p g
Pray these Berber peoples will once again find the Christian faith of their forefathers of long ago.

Summary
The Izarguien are Saharan Arabs, a sub-group of the Tekna tribe. They adhere to the Maliki branch of Sunni Islam. The Tekna is a tribal confederation of Berber and Arab origins in southern Morocco and parts of northern Western Sahara. The Tekna tribes speak the Hassaniya Arabic and Berber Tamazight languages. Their traditional lifestyle was partly nomadic, based on camel and goat herding, and partly sedentary, controlling important routes of the Saharan caravan trade.
Obstacles
Western Sahara is not hospitable to visitors. The partially nomadic tribes are often reluctant to trust outsiders.
How reach
Gospel radio broadcasts may bear fruit among the tribes of the Sahara. Much prayer is needed for the preparation of these broadcasts, and for hearts to be prepared to hear and believe.
Pray for church
There quite likely isn't a single follower of Christ among the Izarguien tribe. However, pray for those the Lord will soon call to himself. Pray they would be firmly grounded on the truths of Scripture, not mixing the grace offered through Christ with the religion of good works. Pray they would understand the priority of living a life obedient to Christ as an expression of thanksgiving.
Pray for p g
Pray for the Izarguien tribe, living in a harsh and dangerous environment, to be able to provide adequately for their needs. Pray for the widow, the orphan and the elderly to be cared for. Pray these people would be able to adjust to the changing requirements of the modern era.

Summary
The Ghomara are one of many Berber groups. The Berbers are a North African people group conquered by Muslim invaders in the 7th century. The name "Berber," derived from the Latin word "barbarian," was given to them by the Romans in the third century. Today, the term "Berber" refers to any native speaker of one of the Berber languages. Now, most Berbers refer to themselves as the Imazighen, which means "men of noble origin." Berbers are generally bilingual, speaking both their Berber dialect and Arabic.
Obstacles
There are very few Christian followers among the Ghomara Berbers in Morocco. It will be difficult to get any of them to give a fair hearing to any idea coming from the outside.
Pray for p g
Pray for a spiritual hunger among Ghomara Berbers that will lead them to the cross and the empty grave. Pray for Ghomara Berbers to put their faith and hope in Christ, paving the way for a movement to Christ. Ask God to send workers to the Ghomara, and that those workers will meet people who will welcome them into their communities with the gospel of peace.
