Summary: The Turkmen have deep roots in Central Asia, but a small number of them live in Syria. Though most are Sunni Muslims, some are part of the Alawite religion. The Sunnis among them blend in well with the Syrian Arab majority and even marry into their families. The Alawites, by contrast, are rejected by the Syrians.
Obstacles: There is no Christian tradition among the Turkmen, either in Turkmenistan or in Syria. Islam is all they know and all most of them ever want to know. But God has a remnant and we will pray for them to be revealed soon.
How reach: It is possible for Turkmen who have internet connection to download and view the JESUS Film and gospel recordings. It might be necessary for anyone who reaches out to them to develop a way to speak to the Alawites among them in a way they can understand.
Pray for p g: Pray for the Syrian church to become unified in Christ's purposes so that they can and will go to the Turkmen among them. Pray for the Turkmen people of Syria to respond to the limited witness and grow disenchanted with Islam. Pray that they would see faith in Jesus as an acceptable alternative to the spiritual answers they have embraced for generations.

Summary: Kurds represent almost ten per cent of the population of Syria and five percent of the world population of Kurds. They live in three main regions of northern Syria which, though politically an integral part of the country, are ethnically and linguistically connected to Kurdistan. The country's largest Kurdish population lives just east of the Euphrates River. This piece of land is more than 175 miles long and stretches across the northern section of the Iraqi border. This region was settled by Kurdish tribes and other mountain peasants who were fleeing Turkish persecution. They eventually became permanent settlers there.
Obstacles: The gospel does not spread very well when there is fighting. Syria is a dangerous land, and gospel witnesses will have troubles reaching the Kurdish community.
How reach: The flipside of that is people are often more open to the gospel when they see death and destruction nearby. Kurds in Syria might be open to the power and holiness of our God.
Pray for p g: Pray that God will supply clean water and food for Kurds living in refugee camps. Ask the Lord to raise up Christian medical teams who can take supplies and expertise to the Kurds. Ask the Lord to call Holy Spirit anointed Syrian believers to share Christ with Kurds. Ask God to encourage and protect the small number of Kurdish believers. Ask the Holy Spirit to soften Kurdish hearts towards Christ and be willing to become part of a movement to the Savior.

Summary: Saudi-Najdi Arabs in Syria fall into two basic classes, "true" Bedouins (desert dwellers), and "fellahim" who lead a more settled life on the edge of the desert. They move into the desert during the rainy winter seasons, and back to the desert's edge during hot, dry summers. They are 100 percent Sunni Muslim.
Obstacles: Evangelical efforts to Saudi-Najdi Arabs in Syria are challenging due to harsh and unsettled nature of their lifestyle. There is a great need for missionaries who are willing and able to endure the difficult conditions of the Syrian desert to reach them for Christ.
How reach: Medical and educational assistance by believers is needed for these transient people. Broken and obedient workers need to go to these people and live among them, serving and loving them as Christ's hands and feet.
Pray for church: There are no known followers of Christ, so pray that this will be the decade where the Holy Spirit begins to move in their communities.
Pray for p g: Pray for the Lord to bless the families among the Saudi-Najdi Arabs in Syria with His presence and mercy. Pray for Bible believing fellowships and disciple-making groups to flourish among them.

Summary: "Druze" is a word derived from el-Drzi, the name of one of the early propagandists of the Druze religion. The religion of the Druze began in the 9th century as a sect of Islam. Druze hold the Qur'an to be sacred, but look upon it as an outer shell, holding an "inner, esoteric meaning." They can be found in Israel, Lebanon and Syria, where they follow a lifestyle of isolation.
Obstacles: The Druze see Jesus as a major prophet, but not the Son of God. Also, their life of isolation makes them resistant to outside influences.
How reach: Christian Arabs may have special rapport with the Druze. Perhaps the Lord will grant a burden for the Druze to some Middle Eastern Christian Arabs, and also to Messianic Jews in Israel.
Pray for church: Pray for the few believers among the Druze, that the Lord may strengthen them out of his glorious riches so that Christ may dwell in their hearts through faith. Pray these believers would fellowship together and grow as the body of Christ.
Pray for p g: Pray each individual in the Druze community would soon become persuaded that Jesus is truly the Son of God, and would place their faith in his finished work on the cross. Pray for multiplying disciples among the Druze.

Summary: If you saw the film "Lawrence of Arabia," then you have some familiarity with the Levantine Bedouins. They have their own dialect of Arabic and, like most Muslims, they are Sunnis. Most are still semi-nomadic, living in the desert during the rainy season and along its edges the rest of the year, raising sheep, goats and camels. Those who have become farmers are no longer called Bedouin. Their patriarchal life has changed little in hundreds of years.
Obstacles: Ministry obstacles include nomadism and political instability in Syria. Nomadism separates them from outside influences. Political instability makes it difficult for ideas to reach those, even those who need hope the most.
How reach: Because some own cell phones and other equipment, radio and Bible aps are useful means of reaching them. Outreach from Arab churches would help and we need to pray that Arab churches will adopt the Levantine Bedouins to reach them for Christ.
Pray for p g: Pray for Christian medical workers to work among them because their health needs are great. Pray that those in Israel would be won to follow Christ and carry the gospel to their kinsmen in Syria and Lebanon.

Summary: The name looks Armenian, but it isn't. Originally from Russia, some Karbadian people live in northern Syria. Their life code values both hospitality and blood revenge; hospitality to guests and blood revenge to their enemies. Their youth are becoming radicalized by Muslim militants.

Summary: Fleeing Soviet dictator Josef Stalin, the Muslim Adyghe people left the northern Russian Caucasus Mountains for Syria prior to World War II. There are still five locations where they live in northern Syria. Today they are experiencing a renaissance of self-identification. Few are Christians. These believers are in Orthodox and Protestant churches. There is also a small, but growing, indigenous church. The New Testament and parts of the Old Testament are available in their language.
Obstacles: Their Islamic faith and growing identification with their religion work against them leaving Islam.
How reach: Believers can utilize their love of hospitality to open Adyghe people to personal witness and to being "hospitable" to Jesus. In Jesus, they will find their true self-identification.
Pray for p g: Pray that the churches in Syria would grow spiritually and numerically and serve Christ by thrusting out workers to the Adyghe people. Pray for many to come to Christ among the Adyghe people in Syria and Russia and other countries where they live. Pray that the Adyghe would come to seek their identity in Christ and learn from Him by reading the Bible.

Summary: Jordanian Arabs typically live in villages located near fertile regions; but they can also be found near mountain foothills in less arid regions. Although they have settled in towns or villages, they have held on to their tribal affiliations. To preserve their people, they are only allowed to marry those inside their own group. Since children are considered a family's greatest asset, females are valued for their ability to bear children.
Obstacles: Central to some of the worst fighting the Middle East has seen in recent history, Syria is a nation wracked with strife. A civil war has been ongoing since 2011, not to mention the terror of ISIS. Such strife interferes with the spread of the gospel.
How reach: However, those who live in dangerous situations are usually open to the ways of the holy one. Hopefully the few Christ followers among them can share the one who holds the future.
Pray for p g: Ask the Lord for opportunities to minister to both Jordanian and Syrian Arabs through relief and rebuilding efforts, and that the love of Christ would be made known to the suffering. Pray that God will raise up faithful intercessors who will stand in the gap for the Jordanian Arabs in Syria. Ask the Holy Spirit to stir the hearts of these people toward Christ, and for movements to arise of Arabs in Syria coming to know Christ.

Summary: Muslim Abkhaz fled persecution when Russia took over their country and some made their homes in the nation of Syria. There has been a civil war in Syria since 2011 resulting in more than 500,000 deaths, millions fleeing to safety, and over 6 million more being internally displaced, including many of the Abkhaz people.
Obstacles: Times of war prevent people from sharing the gospel. Travel and communications are hampered.
How reach: Physical needs are great. Provision of water, food, clothing will make a loving and greatly needed introduction.
Pray for p g: Pray that in their great need Abkhaz hearts will be softened and willing to look to the cross for answers. Pray for a swift and just end to the many-sided, ongoing war in Syria. Pray for Christian believers to help Abkhaz refugees with their physical and spiritual needs. Pray for a disciple making movement among the Abkhaz in Syria that will heal their wounded hearts and souls.

Summary: The Chechens of southwestern Russia are a strong, determined people with a long history of fighting for their independence. Soviet rule dominated the Chechens during the first half of the 20th century. When World War II broke out, most Chechens opposed the Germans and fought alongside the Soviet Red Army. Despite this, in 1944 many of the Chechens and their neighbors, the Ingush, were deported to central Asia. They were not allowed to return until after 1968. In 1991, the Chechen Republic declared its independence from Russia. Russian troops invaded it to regain control, and much of the nation still lies in ruins. Some of them have moved to other nations, especially Turkey and France. A small number live in Syria.
Obstacles: Chechens are among the most devout Muslims in the former Soviet Union. Several anti-Soviet uprisings fueled their religious fervor. We don't know how many Chechens are involved with Islamic insurgency, but it is very possible that some are fighting in Syria.
How reach: There are believers in Egypt and Syria who can reach out to Chechens and show them the ways of Christ.
Pray for church: Pray for the endurance and protection of the few known Chechen believers around the world. Pray for believers in Syrian to have a burden to share the gospel with the Muslim Chechens living in their countries.
Pray for p g: Pray for political stability in Syria, so the Chechens can live in peace. Ask the Lord to tear down barriers to the gospel so that workers who live and work among the Chechens will see fruit. Pray that the Chechens will have the opportunity to choose Jesus.
