Summary
The Bambara are the largest and most dominant group in Mali. During the 1700s, there were two Bambara kingdoms: Segu and Karta. In the 1800s, aggressive Muslim groups overthrew these kingdoms, leaving only a few anti-Muslim Bambara to oppose their occupation. But today, the Bambara are majority Muslim. However, many people still follow their traditional beliefs in ancestor worship. The Bambara believe that the ancestral spirits may take on the forms of animals or even vegetables.
Obstacles
Mali is not very hospitable to Christian workers, so creative means of access is helpful.
How reach
Christians need to build bridges of trust and friendship with the Bambara, helping them with physical and material needs.
Pray for church
Pray for the followers of Jesus among the Bambara, that they will live holy lives and be a shining testimony of the Lord's goodness to their own people.
Pray for p g
Pray the Bambara tribe may be able to care adequately for their families, as they live in a harsh environment.

Summary
One important aspect of Senoufo society is its concept of community. The Senoufo think of themselves as one group, with all of their ideas pointing in the same direction. The concept of the individual is known only in limited circumstances. People eat as a group and dip into a common dish, and fields are worked collectively. To the Senoufo, the good of the community always comes before the good of the individual. Daily life for the Senufo revolves around religious rituals that enable them to placate the deities they respect and fear through means of divination practices and the wearing of specially crafted brass jewelry.
Obstacles
It is said about the Senoufo that "unless the entire tribe makes a change, such as converting to a different religion, no one does." This trait can serve as a barrier to acceptance of the Gospel message, or as an expedient.
How reach
Mali has only a very small Christian presence. Christian workers from outside the country need to bring the good news about Jesus to the tribes of Mali. Please pray for workers to become available.
Pray for church
Please pray for the relatively few individuals in this tribe who identify themselves as Christians. Pray the Lord will show them whether they have actually placed saving faith in Jesus.
Pray for p g
Please pray for this tribe to be completely delivered from the fear and futility of honoring evil spiritual forces. Pray they will experience freedom to honor the creator God who loves them, the freedom that comes from placing faith in Jesus Christ.

Summary
The Fulani are the largest nomadic society in the world. The Maasina Fulani are located predominantly in the Maasina region of Mali. Their culture and lifestyle are virtually identical to those of other Fulani peoples in West Africa. Houses belonging to the settled Maasina are typically round with mud walls and thatched roofs. They are strongly Sunni Muslim.
Obstacles
The identity of the Fulani tribes has long been tied to Islam. To follow Jesus as a Fulani is to risk cutting oneself off from family and friends--serious losses indeed.
Pray for p g
Pray for workers because the harvest is ripening. Pray teachers and materials would be sent to the few Christian believers among the Maasina Fulani to help them grow in Christ. They need prayer support. Pray they would clearly understand the gospel of grace, not mixing it with the religion of good works. Pray they would see the need to be obedient to Christ out of gratitude. Pray the large Fulani tribes of West Africa would be able to care adequately for their families, that they would have sufficient rain for their livestock and crops. Pray they would make schooling a priority for their children. Pray for the widow and orphan, that they would be cared for by the community.

Summary
Koyraboro is a language spoken by a subgroup of the Songhai. Most Songhai live in the south savannah region of Mali near the Niger and Senegal Rivers. Men work the fields. Women take care of children, have small plots of land and grow fruits and vegetables. Some families also raise cattle and goats for their meat, milk and hides. Some Songhai make a living by fishing in the rivers and lakes. Songhai parents encourage their sons to get a secondary education. Most girls may only attend primary schools for a few years before they begin working with their mothers to support the family. Young men get married in their middle twenties. Girls marry in their early or middle teens. First born sons often are pressured to marry a cousin to keep the wealth in the family.
Obstacles
The Songhai-Koyraboro people live in a part of Mali where there are very few Christ followers and Islam is not challenged.
How reach
There are many physical needs that Christ followers can address if they are willing to live among them.
Pray for p g
Ask the Lord to send Christian agricultural workers, educators, and medical personnel to serve the Songhai-Koyraboro of Mali. Ask the Lord to save key Songhai-Koyraboro leaders who will boldly proclaim the good news. Pray that God will strengthen, embolden, and protect the very few groups of Songhai believers. Ask the Lord to raise up a disciples who will make more disciples.

Summary
The Khassonke are mostly farmers. The richest are devoted to livestock production if they have someone to care for them (family or hired). The poorer people may send their young children to seek work after harvest to supplement their income. Peanuts are almost always present in the diet of the poor and the rich. One can identify in a village the noble families, the founders of the village or older families; the Imam, the Marabou; and the rich. The religion of the Khassonke is Islam, mixed with animism especially in rural areas.
Obstacles
Spiritual opposition as well as opposition from friends and family makes it quite difficult for people in Mali to accept Jesus the Messiah for who he truly is.
How reach
Pray that people will be drawn to Jesus (whom Muslims call Isa al-Masih) as the Koran is studied. Pray for growing interest, and that Jesus will reveal himself powerfully.
Pray for church
Please pray for the few followers of Jesus in the Khasonke tribe to learn that Jesus is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation, and that by him all things were created.
Pray for p g
Please pray for adequate rainfall for Khasonke farmers to raise good crops. Pray also for pure water to drink, and for improved medical care.

Summary
The Malinke, or Maninka, live scattered throughout West Africa. The Maninka live in walled, compact villages and towns. Their houses are grouped according to family ties, with each extended family occupying a compound. A number of these compounds compose a village. Each village has a headman who acts as judge over the village. He handles disputes and helps the council of elders. He also engages in important religious functions. Most Maninka live in huts that are round or rectangular with walls made of sun-dried brick and roofs made of thatched grass. Many young, unmarried men occupy separate bachelor quarters in the same compound as their fathers. This practice has been the norm for many years.
Obstacles
It is very difficult to convince a Muslim to leave the Islamic religious system. Although some Christian resources are available to them, the Western Maninka seem extremely devoted to their own beliefs.
How reach
They will need to see power encounters between the God of the Bible and the spirit world.
Pray for p g
Ask the Lord of the harvest to thrust forth long-term Christian laborers. Ask the Holy Spirit to grant wisdom and favor to any mission agencies currently focusing on the Maninka. Pray that God will give Western Maninka believers boldness to share Christ with their own people. Ask God to raise up prayer teams who will begin breaking up the soil through worship and intercession.

Summary
While each village is ruled by its own chief, the oldest descendants of the first Maninka settlers are counted as nobility and have a certain amount of authority. There is a clear social order among the Kita Maninka that ranges from nobility to commoners. Those with the highest status are, surprisingly, the musicians and the blacksmiths. When a Kita Maninka singer dies, his library of original music must be burned. The Kita Maninka people believe that blacksmiths have magical powers. The lowest and most despised class consists of former slaves. Some of the Maninka prefer living in cities where they can develop a trade or work in a service occupation. Nevertheless, while living in the cities, they usually remain attached to their villages in some way.
Obstacles
Very few of the Maninka follow Christ. Although some Christian resources are available to them, the Maninka seem extremely devoted to their own beliefs.
How reach
Those with a gift of writing music can provide gospel songs in the local language. It can teach the ways of Jesus and biblical truths.
Pray for p g
Ask the Lord of the harvest to thrust forth long-term laborers to the Kita Maninka people in Mali. Pray that God will give the Maninka believers boldness to share Christ with their own people. Pray for culturally appropriate radio broadcasts in the language of the Kita Maninka people. Ask the Lord to bring forth a triumphant Kita Maninka church for the glory of His name.

Summary
The Tuareg are a nomadic pastoralist people, and are the principal inhabitants of the Saharan interior of North Africa. Descended from Berbers in the region that is now Libya, the Tuareg are descendants of ancient Saharan peoples described by Herodotus, who mentions the ancient Libyan people, the Garamantes. In the early nineteenth century, the Tuareg resisted the French invasion of their Central Saharan homelands for the purpose of colonization. After numerous massacres on both sides, the Tuareg were subdued.
Obstacles
The Tuareg are located in an area of difficult access for outsiders.
How reach
Gospel radio can be useful for these people living in a remote region.
Pray for church
Pray the few followers of Christ among the Tuareg will grow both in maturity and in numbers. Pray for qualified pastors and teachers, and for Scripture to be made available to them.
Pray for p g
Pray the Tuareg to be able to care well for their families, for improved living conditions and for schooling for their children.

Summary
The Maninka are known for their ingenuity and leadership qualities, as well as their trading, farming, and mining abilities. Before becoming a part of the Mali Empire, the Manding were credited with revolutionizing agriculture in the area; they discovered the use of millet, one of the most important grains in West Africa today. The Maninkas live in large, walled-in villages. Within the villages, families live in separate, fenced-in compounds. Their homes are round, thatch-roof huts made of mud and sun-dried brick. Few of the homes have electricity or running water. The Maninka primarily work as farmers, miners, or merchants.
Obstacles
There is a longstanding tradition among the Maninka peoples to be Muslim, but also practice divination and the casting of spells. Fear plays a big role in the spiritual lives of the Maninka.
How reach
Those who visit Maninka villages to share Christ will want to provide them with songs, skits, and dramas that underscore the sovereignty of Christ, and how those who follow Him do not need to fear.
Pray for church
Pray for believers among the Maninka people to demonstrate love, boldness, and courage in the face of any adversity.
Pray for p g
Pray that fear will be replaced with faith and joy when the Maninkas hear about the power of Jesus Christ. Pray for the effectiveness of the JESUS Film among the Maninkas. Ask the Lord of the harvest to send many laborers to the Maninka people in Mali. Ask the Holy Spirit to grant wisdom and favor to mission agencies focusing on the Maninka. There are SIM missionaries in neighboring Guinea. Ask the Lord to bring forth a triumphant Maninka church for the glory of His name.

Summary
The Tuareg tribe is one of the Berber groups, and they are very unusual. Their distinguishing characteristics include their language, their unique alphabet, and their complex social organization. There are subgroups within the Tuaregs, often based on their dialect. Tamajaq is one of these, though that term is also a generic reference to the Tuareg peoples. In the Southern Sahara Desert, many formerly nomadic Tuaregs are now settled farmers living in villages surrounded by grain fields. Christian workers are usually welcomed if they bring valuable help. The Tamajaq Tuaregs would love to have people bring needed medical care or help them get an adequate water supply.
Obstacles
Since there are no known Christ followers among the Tamajaq Tuaregs they will have to hear the gospel from outsiders.
Pray for p g
Pray for the very few believers among the Tamasheq people in Mali, that the Lord will nurture and protect their faith and send them qualified pastors and teachers. Pray that Tuareg Tamajaq people in Mali would come to know the living Lord through radio broadcasts, films, audio resources and personal contacts with believers. Ask the Lord to send loving Christ followers from other parts of Africa to share the gospel with the Tuareg in Mali. Ask the Lord to save key leaders who will boldly declare the gospel, influencing family leaders.

Summary
There are many Songhai subgroups, and one of the least known are the Koyra, a subgroup that has their own dialect. The Koyra Songhai village community is patrilineal; that is, all the men have a common male ancestor. Among Songhai nobles, firstborn sons are pressured to marry their paternal uncle's daughter to maintain the purity of the lineage. Men marry in their late twenties, whereas girls marry in their early teens. Whether the marriage bond lasts or not, children belong to the husband's lineage group.
Obstacles
The Islamic religious system is largely unchallenged among the Koyra Songhai. It is guarded by their families and communities.
How reach
Christ followers can take the Koyra Songhai the gospel through various audio and visual tools such as the JESUS Film.
Pray for p g
Ask the Lord to send Christian agricultural workers, educators, and doctors to minister to the Koyra Songhai people of Mali. Ask the Holy Spirit to grant wisdom to the mission agencies that are focusing on the Songhai peoples. Ask the Lord to save key leaders among the Koyra Songhai who will boldly proclaim the gospel. Pray that God will strengthen, embolden, and protect Songhai believers. Pray that they will lovingly share their Savior with others. Pray for a victorious Koyra Songhai church that is defined by love, service to Christ, and discipleship.

Summary
The Bozo are a West African ethnic group located predominantly along the Niger River in Mali. The name Bozo is thought to derive from Bambara bo-so, meaning “Bamboo house.” They are famous for their fishing and are occasionally referred to as the “masters of the river.” Rock drawings linked to the Bozo date back as far as 6,000 years, but many aspects of their current culture took shape under the 10th century Ghana Empire, when the Bozo took possession of the banks of the Niger. Though the Bozo are overwhelmingly Muslim, they preserve a number of animist traditions as well.
Obstacles
Mali is not a hospitable land to outsiders, and conditions are often harsh. Also, the Bozo identity is strongly Muslim.
Pray for p g
Pray the Jenaama Bozo will care adequately for their families and to have good schools for their children. Pray for God's blessing on the leaders in the Jenaama, along with their families, and for their communities to welcome and enjoy God's provision. Pray also for the few Christian believers among this Bozo tribe, that they will find teachers to help them grow in the faith. Pray they will come to a good understanding of how to follow Christ. Pray they will become strong disciples who make more disciples.

Summary
Historically, the Bozo are one of the oldest peoples in Mali. Rock drawings linked to the Bozo date back as far as 6,000 years. The Bozo are described as peaceable and friendly, living mainly along the Niger and other rivers in Mali. They live in small, compact villages on the banks of streams, and rely greatly on the rivers for their livelihood. Today, technology is having a great impact on the society, as cell phones, videos, CD players, and satellite television are becoming commonplace. Bozo land is owned by the community as a whole and is administered by the community's headman. Before the advent of Islam the Bozo practiced traditional African religions, worshipping a Supreme Being and creator God, Faro. At present the tribe is almost 100% Muslim.
Obstacles
The Bozo do not have a history of providing formal education for their children, and the literacy rate is low.
How reach
The Bozo are part of the broader Soninke group, and there are a number of outreaches underway to the Soninke. Pray the Bozo people will not be overlooked.
Pray for church
Please pray for the very few followers of Jesus in the Bozo tribes. Pray that mature Christians will be sent to help them become firmly established on the words and deeds of Jesus.
Pray for p g
Please pray the Bozo tribes will be able to make needed adjustments to the rapidly changing world around them.

Summary
As with many people groups, geopolitical borders do not define the area inhabited by the Wassulu. The Wassulu region expands from the southwest corner of Mali to the northwest corner of Cote d'Ivoire and the northeast part of Guinea. Like many West Africans, they live a simple lifestyle depending on locally grown crops to feed themselves with little dependency on food items brought into their region. Corn is their staple food.
Obstacles
Their villages are often remote, and some are inaccessible by car at the peak of the rainy season. For these reasons is difficult for gospel workers to access the Wassulu homeland in Mali.
Pray for p g
Pray for Wassulu leaders who have heard the chronological Bible stories to clearly remember Jesus in their dreams. Pray also that the Holy Spirit inspires the religious and cultural leaders within the Wassulu region. Pray that soon Wassulu disciples will disciple others.

Summary
The majority of the Duun practice various ethnic religions and many are also Muslim. Like many other West African tribes, the Duun worship dead ancestors. They also believe that the "supreme god" is too distant to worship directly and that, therefore, the only way to serve him or to worship him is through a spirit. Consequently, Duun will worship a statue or another object they believe contains a spirit. The spirit, in return, will supposedly give worship to the supreme god on behalf of the Duun individual.
Obstacles
There is no scripture reported for the language of the Duun nor are other Christian resources available. This will make it especially difficult to win and disciple people in this tribe.
How reach
Duun hearts and minds need to be prepared to understand and believe. Pray for spiritual openness during this time when few missionaries can go to them.
Pray for p g
Pray for peace in Mali. Pray also for adequate rainfall for the crops and livestock. May the Duun know the God who can draw so close to them that he can dwell in their very hearts. Pray that they understand the goodness and power of Christ and be drawn to him, family by family.

Summary
The Idaksahak (meaning "sons of Isaac") formerly were herders for Tuareg nobles, in return for their protection. This relationship has now broken down, and there is less mixing of the Idaksahak with the Tuaregs. However, they use the same watering holes, and they trade at the same markets. Some have become settled farmers while many are nomads and have few possessions apart from their animals. Though most live in Mali, the nomads may reach into Algeria and Niger. The men are often bilingual, speaking their own language and the language of the Tuareg. The women and children are often isolated in their camps and speak only their own language. Schooling is available only in the towns and will likely be in French, their trade language.
Obstacles
It is difficult to contact and develop relationships with nomadic peoples.
How reach
Gospel recordings are available in the Tadaksahak language. Workers should consider taking recordings to these people, developing friendships, and pursuing opportunities to share the recordings.
Pray for p g
Pray for good schools to be made available for the children and for parents to recognize the importance of education. Pray for adequate rain, so the livestock will do well. Pray for Idaksahak believers to make more disciples until every family is reached for Christ.

Summary
The Dogon of Mali built their first villages in cliffside caves to protect themselves from nomadic Fulani slave raiders. Isolated and distrustful of outsiders, they grew into a scattering of micro-communities, eventually each with a distinct language. One of their subgroups is the Tombo. The Dogon tribes have spread from cliffs to plateaus, and grow crops such as onions, rice, sorghum, peanuts, and raise livestock. For centuries, the Dogon have resisted Islam. As society has modernized, they have become increasingly Muslim. There are a few known Believers among the Tombo Dogon. Villages with Christians are experiencing church growth.
Obstacles
The Tombo Dogon are primarily Muslim. Christ-followers face a high level of persecution, potentially instilling fear in those who begin believing in Christ.
How reach
Portions of the Bible have been translated into their mother-tongue, Tommo So Dogon.
Pray for church
Pray for Holy Spirit led workers to go to the Tombo Dogon people of Mali. Pray for spiritual receptivity and an understanding of their need for a righteous Savior. Pray for Tombo Dogon disciples who will make more disciples who will make even more disciples. Pray for the Lord to show himself loving and powerful by providing an abundance for their crops this year.

Summary
The Fulbe are a large people group located in West African. Most are farmers or shepherds. The Fulbe are expected to follow a code of high moral behavior known as Pulaaku. Pulaaku extols virtues such as kindness, bravery, patience, tolerance, perseverance, honesty, diligence, generosity, and dignity. To be reserved is part of being dignified; thus, they are shy and modest in public. A mother does not show affection to her infant son. In fact, she never even calls her firstborn by his name all throughout his life.
Obstacles
Efforts to evangelize these people have resulted in only a very small number of Fulbe believers. They are very devoted to their Islamic religion and see it as a fulfillment of their needs.
How reach
It will take consistent prayer before spiritual blinders are removed.
Pray for p g
Ask God to raise up prayer teams who will begin breaking up the soil through worship and intercession. Ask the Lord of the harvest to send full-time missionaries to share the gospel with the Fulbe of Mali. Pray for effectiveness of the JESUS Film among the Fulbe throughout Africa. Pray that God will give the small number of Fulbe believers boldness to start a movement to Christ within their community. Ask the Lord to bring forth a strong and growing church among the Fulbe.

Summary
A widely quoted Bedouin saying is: "I against my brothers, I and my brothers against my cousins, I and my brothers and my cousins against the world." Bedouins traditionally have strong honor codes, and traditional systems of justice dispensation in Bedouin society typically revolve around such codes. The bisha'a, or ordeal by fire, is a well-known Bedouin practice of lie detection.
Obstacles
These people live in a harsh environment, difficult for outsiders to enter.
How reach
Gospel radio will be useful, and visiting workers bringing videos and recordings are needed. Sustained prayer may be the best thing we can do.
Pray for church
Pray for the few followers of Christ among the Bedouin of Mali. They live in a difficult environment. Pray they will have nothing to do with the deeds of darkness, living as children of light.
Pray for p g
Pray for the material and physical needs of the Bedouin. Pray they will be able to care properly for their families.

Summary
In the modern Arab world, traditional values have undergone significant changes for most Arab groups. This cultural change can be attributed to the pressure to urbanize, industrialize, and de-tribalize. However, many of the Saharan Arabs still live as desert shepherds, regardless of their location. The Arabs migrated hundreds of years ago from the Middle East into North Africa, and from there, many of them live in such sub-Saharan African countries as Mali and Senegal. The Saharan Arabs remain predominantly nomadic. These people work as livestock herders living in tents. They move their herds to the desert during the rainy season and move out of the desert during the summer. Some Saharan Arabs have joined the movement of Azwad, a separatist group that seeks to create an independent state for Saharan Arabs.
Obstacles
Their remoteness and their lack of Christian believers are two factors that keep the Saharan Arabs in spiritual darkness.
Pray for p g
Pray for God to send abundant rain to the Saharan Desert as a testimony to the Arabs of his goodness and sovereignty. Ask God to open the hearts of the Saharan Arabs to the message of salvation. Pray for faithful workers to take the message of salvation to the Saharan Arabs. Pray for the formation of Bible believing churches to develop and transform their lives.

Summary
The majority of the Kagoro are animists, believing that non-human objects have spirits. In addition, they practice ancestor worship, and rites are celebrated to worship them. The dead are appeased with offerings of millet flour and water. The Kagoro believe that sometimes their ancestors may take the form of animals or even vegetables! Illiteracy is a major problem among the Kagoro. Some Islamic schools have been established, but most villages fail to educate their children because their help is needed on the farm.
Obstacles
Mali is not a hospitable region for Christian workers. Creative means of access from outsiders are needed.
How reach
A low literacy rate suggests the need for oral communication of the Gospel message. Stories from Scripture, and Gospel recordings and videos, can be very helpful.
Pray for church
There may be a few followers of Christ among the Kagoro community; pray they will be nurtured by the Spirit of Jesus, and will become strong in the faith. Pray they will be joyful always, praying continually, and giving thanks in all circumstances.
Pray for p g
Pray the Kagoro will be set free from the bondage of worshiping created things. Pray also for improved living conditions, and for good schools for the children.

Summary
Bozos are a nomadic people and are thus on the move. In general, tribal groups are refugees, living in perpetual fear of aggression from other tribes or powerful civilizations. Often they are able to survive by living where no one else would want the land. There is very little education within this group, but they are becoming more aware of the world outside. They are animistic; beneath the Muslim surface there is a strong animistic undercurrent. They have their own distinctive religious system and worldview.
Obstacles
Scripture is not available in the language of this group, and Mali is not generally hospitable to Christian workers.
How reach
The Bozos are a nomadic people and are thus on the move. It is important to be willing to travel along with them.
Pray for church
There are probably no followers of Jesus among this group in Mali. But pray the Lord is even now preparing teachers and pastors for those who will soon come to him.
Pray for p g
Pray the Bozo tribe will be able to provide a good education for their children, and become well prepared to live in a rapidly changing society. Also, pray for peace with other tribes.

Summary
Primarily farmers, the Siamou people in Burkina Faso and Mali grow cereals such as sorghum, millet, and maize. Yams, squash, beans, peppers, and a little rice are also grown. Some of these crops are sold in local markets, especially beer made from sorghum. Cattle, sheep, goats, and chickens are raised at each homestead. The men do most of the farm work, but the women help plant and harvest. Women also cultivate their own garden vegetables, collect forest products, gather firewood, draw water, and prepare the food and beer.
Obstacles
The Siamou people have few Christian resources available in their language.
How reach
Believers from other people groups can share Christ in Siamou villages using music, dance, and skits.
Pray for church
Several Siamou people have become followers of Christ. There is a need for discipleship materials for these young believers.
Pray for p g
Ask the Holy Spirit to anoint the efforts of any mission agencies ministering to them. Ask God to raise up prayer teams who will begin breaking up the soil through worship and intercession. Ask the Lord to bring forth a disciple making movement among the Siamou people that will result in their communities being transformed for His glory.

Summary
The Jotoni of Mali are a small tribe, speaking the Jowulu language, Bambara and French. Conditions in Mali are often harsh, with GNP of only $800 per person. Mali's subsistence agricultural economy is often devastated by drought, famine, desertification and locust plagues. The country has freedom of religion, in spite of the large Muslim majority. The Jotoni tribe is animistic.
Obstacles
The land of the Jotoni is not hospitable to outsiders, conditions are often harsh.
How reach
Perhaps the many Christian believers in lands to the south of Mali will be burdened for the tribes of Mali. Pray for this, and that they won't overlook the small Jotoni tribe.
Pray for church
There may be no believers in Jesus among the Jotoni tribe at present, but pray for those the Lord will soon lead to himself. Pray they will be completely humble and gentle toward one another.
Pray for p g
Pray the Jotoni tribe will be able to provide for their families, with clean water, sufficient food and shelter, and schools for their children.

Summary
The Yalunka are primarily subsistence farmers, with rice and millet being their staple crops. They are said to be original inhabitants of the Futa Jallon, a mountainous region in Guinea, West Africa. The Yalunka live in round huts that have brick walls and cone-shaped, straw-thatched roofs. Within the village or settlement, the huts are grouped in compounds around a courtyard and are surrounded by a fence. They are nearly all Muslim. Although they follow most of the religious teachings of Islam and observe its rituals and ceremonies, some of their pre-Islamic beliefs still persist. For instance, they continue to believe in N 'iena, or "nature spirits," and sacrifices are regularly made to them.
Obstacles
Mali is strongly Islamic, and access to this harsh land is not easy.
How reach
Please pray the Yalunka will strongly desire to find a Savior, someone who can forgive their sin and give them abundant life. Then, at the proper time may the Lord send someone to give them knowledge of his son Jesus.
Pray for church
Please pray for the few people among the Yalunka who consider themselves to be Christians. They need mature Christians to teach them and otherwise disciple them. Pray they will become numerous enough to impact the entire tribe with their testimony.
Pray for p g
Pray that parents will see the importance of obtaining schooling for their children. Pray for the availability of good schools with dedicated and competent teachers.

Summary
The Jahanka are descended from the larger Soninke people group. They make up a specialized caste of professional Muslim clerics and teachers dating back to the fifteenth century. Because of their high prestige, they exercise a high degree of economic and religious influence among Soninke groups. Over time, many of the Jahanka have transitioned into agriculture, commerce and other professions. They continue to value education and scholarship and are successful in business. They have become more urbanized through the decades.
Obstacles
They are far more orthodox and committed to Islam than just about any other people group in Africa. That means they are not open to ideas that seem to contradict Islam.
How reach
There will be spiritual opposition when the gospel is presented to the Jahanka. The Lord can raise up his ambassadors who have faith and discernment to go to the Jahanka.
Pray for church
Pray for peace and justice in Mali.
Pray for p g
Pray for a full Bible and Christian radio. They especially need spiritual openness to the one, true savior. Pray for Jahanka elders to open the door for the gospel to go forth. Pray the Jahanka tribe would increasingly be drawn to Jesus when they see what he can do for their families and communities.

Summary
Bozo comes from the Bambara term for straw house; it's a reference to dwellings in temporary fishing camps. People use this term for an entire ethnic group. "Bozo" is really three distinct people groups speaking four varieties of the so-called Bozo language. One of these is Tiemacewe, the language of the Tiemacewe Bozo. Things are changing for the Tiemacewe Bozo as their lives are becoming more modernized. Some have cell phones, videos, CD players, televisions, and satellite TV. Travel is becoming easier because they now have access to better boats and roads. The Tiemacewe Bozo are becoming more aware of the world around them. They might be ready to hear and respond to outside spiritual ideas.
Obstacles
They are groups that have Christian churches, thus giving the impression that Christianity is okay for the Dogon or Bobo people groups, who were not highly Muslim. The French colonialists left a terrible impression on the Bozos of how Christians behave.
Pray for p g
Ask the Lord to send loving followers of Christ to make Tiemacewe Bozo disciples, who will in turn make more disciples. Ask the Lord to save key leaders among the Tiemacewe Bozo who will boldly declare the gospel. Pray that mission organizations and churches will accept the challenge of adopting and discipling the Tiemacewe Bozo of Mali. Pray for the Lord to give Tiemacewe Bozo family leaders dreams and visions of Christ, opening their hearts to the only Savior.

Summary
The Dogon built their first villages in cliffside caves to protect themselves from nomadic Fulani slave raiders. Isolated and distrustful of outsiders, they grew into a scattering of micro-communities, eventually developing 20 different languages. They cannot understand the dialect of another subgroup. One of their subgroups is the Nanga Dama. The Dogon people live now in a dry, remote savannah area in central Mali, stretching into Burkina Faso.
Obstacles
Life in the bare rocky cliffs is harsh. It will be difficult for Christ's ambassadors to adapt to their environment.
How reach
The Nanga Dama Dogon community knows their religion is not adequate. Perhaps missionaries can demonstrate the power and goodness of the Lord to these people who depend on unclean spirits and a tainted form of Islam.
Pray for church
Most Dogon subgroups have a strong gospel witness, but this is lacking among the Nanga Dama. Pray for Dogon believers who will live out their faith and lovingly make disciples.
Pray for p g
Pray for Holy Spirit led workers to go to the Nanga Dama Dogon people of Mali. Pray for spiritual receptivity and an understanding of their need for a righteous savior. Pray for Nanga Dama Dogon disciples who will make more disciples who will make even more disciples. Pray for the Lord to show himself loving and powerful by providing an abundance for their crops this year.
