Summary
In the thirteenth century, Genghis Khan formed the largest empire in world history by uniting all the nomadic Mongol tribes. The Khalkha Mongols consider themselves the direct descendants of Genghis Khan, and they believe they are the true keepers of Mongol culture. They consider their language, Halh, to be the "real" Mongolian language. Many are nomads, living in herding camps and migrating seasonally with their animals. The Khalkha Mongols were traditionally shamanists but were introduced to Buddhism in the 16th century.
Obstacles
It is difficult to establish long-term relationships with nomadic peoples. Gaining their trust and finding the opportunity to present the good news of Jesus is a challenge.
How reach
The Lord has called many Mongols to himself in recent years. His church is growing in Mongolia.
Pray for p g
Pray for Christian Mongolians to start a church planting movement among the Khalka Mongols. Pray for the Mongols to be open to hearing and receiving the gospel message. Ask God to send missions workers to preach and demonstrate his power among the Khalka Mongols.

Summary
The Torgut language is a variant of Oirat, but speakers of the two groups can converse with relative ease. The Torgut are a subgroup of the Oirat. The Torguts speak basically the same language as the Oirat, but they view themselves as ethnically separate. They have been described as having a Tibetan religion, and a Mongolian language. Torgut history closely mirrors that of the Oirat. Folk dancing is a favorite pastime of the Kalmyk-Oirat. The bielgee, or "dance of the body," originated during the Qing (Manchu) Dynasty. Dancers express themselves by using their arms, legs, and other parts of their bodies in rhythmic movements.
Obstacles
Their cultural ways do not leave room for a sovereign savior.
How reach
There are audio Christian materials that the Kalmyk-Oirat people can download and listen to.
Pray for p g
Pray for the Lord to provide for their physical and spiritual needs as a testimony of his power and love. Pray that the Kalmyk-Oirat people will have a spiritual hunger that will open their hearts to the King of kings. Pray for workers who are driven by the love and boldness of the Holy Spirit to go to them. Pray for a movement to Christ among them to begin this decade.

Summary
The Kazakhs of Mongolia belong to a larger group of people who live primarily in present day Kazakhstan. Traditionally the Kazaks were semi nomadic, equestrian tribal people who roamed the Ural Mountains and the regions of North and Central Asia of Eurasia. Only people of the Kazakh ethnic group are called Kazakhs, while the term Kazakhstani refers to the people of Kazakhstan, inclusive of all ethnic groups living in the country. Likewise, not everyone in Mongolia is Mongol; some are Kazakh and other ethnic minorities. The Kazakhs who now live in Mongolia make up the largest non-Mongolian ethnic group in the country.
Obstacles
Their remote location makes them harder to reach than those who are living in urban centers.
How reach
Both the Mongolian and Kazakh languages have complete Bibles and the JESUS Film. Christ followers can distribute them to Kazakh family elders.
Pray for p g
Ask the Lord to send long term laborers to live among Kazakhs in Mongolia and share the love of Christ with them. Ask the Holy Spirit to open the hearts of Kazakhs, so that they will be receptive to the gospel. Pray that Christian who are filled with the fruit of the Holy Spirit will have open doors to share the gospel with the Kazakhs. Ask the Lord to raise up a church planting movement among Kazakhs in Mongolia.

Summary
The Durbet are a Western Mongol tribe who are primarily located in the western part of Mongolia, near the border of Russia. Like other Mongols, the Durbet are known for their love of fine horses and horse racing. Favorite pastimes include storytelling, singing, archery and wrestling. Medical facilities among the Durbet are inadequate. Limited water supply, poor hygiene, deficient diet and alcoholism are all common problems.
Obstacles
The Durbet were traditionally animists and shamanists, but in the late 1500s they adopted Tibetan Buddhism. Praying to other spirits and gods besides Jesus Christ can harden people's hearts towards the gospel.
How reach
There are Jesus followers among the Durbet. The local churches could organize medical clinics where they care for people's spiritual and physical needs.
Pray for church
Pray that the believers among the Durbet would rise up to share the gospel with their Buddhist and animist neighbors. Pray for God to strengthen the local church to shine the light of Jesus to the whole community.
Pray for p g
Pray that God's church in Mongolia would grow in deeper discipleship and greater mission vision. Pray that God would send Christian medical teams to live and work among these precious people. Pray that God would open the hearts of Mongolia's governmental leaders to the gospel.

Summary
In the 13th century, the term "Mongol" grew into an umbrella term for a large group of tribes united under the rule of Genghis Khan. Ethnic distinctions among the Mongol subgroups are relatively minor. Tribal differences are usually not a political or social issue as Mongolia is a generally peaceful nation. The Bayad people are one of the Mongol tribes, residing in western Mongolia.
Obstacles
Mongolia is a very large country with limited travel facilities. Access to remote tribes requires effort. Almost half of the Bayad people are Buddhists. The form of Buddhism in Mongolia is the Tibetan form that is mixed with shamanism and spirit appeasement. It is difficult for them to understand faith in the living Christ.
How reach
There are Bible resources in their Halh Mongolian language. The entire Bible, audio and visual resources, including the JESUS Film can be used by those willing to pay the price to reach Bayad people in Mongolia with the gospel.
Pray for p g
Mongolian Christian believers can glorify him by reaching the Bayad people. Pray for the physical and material well-being of the Bayad people, that they would make schooling of their children a priority and would be able to care adequately for their families. Pray for the Bayad people to have spiritual hunger and discernment that will lead them to the cross.

Summary
The Buriat (or Northern Mongolian) people are descended from various Siberian and Mongolic peoples that inhabited the Lake Baikal Region of Siberia. Buryats rebelled against communist rule and collectivization of their herds in 1929. The rebellion was quickly crushed by the Red Army with loss of 35,000 Buriats. Some Buriats fled to Mongolia and resettled. Buriats love music, folk dances, chess, and sporting events. Their religious beliefs are a mixture of Shamanism and Buddhism.

Pray against spiritual opposition in the land of the Buriats, so the people will have the freedom needed to respond positively to the good news of Christ.
How reach
The Lord is moving in Mongolia, and there are now quite a number of indigenous Christians in the land. Pray the Lord will lead some of these believers to the Buriat people.
Pray for church
There may be a few followers of Jesus among the Buriat people. Pray they will live holy lives, and will well understand and believe the Gospel of Christ, not mixing it with their past belief system.
Pray for p g
Pray the Buriat people will not be satisfied with their present religion, but will seek the Way, the Truth and the Life: Jesus Christ.

Summary
Unlike many people in Mongolia, the Tuvan people live in log cabins, not gers. Some live in towns. Most Tuvans raise livestock for a living. They also hunt and do a limited amount of farming. Oats, barley, wheat, and millet are their principal crops. Recently, farmers from northern China have introduced Tuvans to vegetable farming. Many Tuvans still live as nomadic shepherds, migrating seasonally with their herds. The main industrial activity in the Tuvan Republic is mining, especially for asbestos, cobalt, coal, gold, and uranium. Other industries include processing food, crafting leather or wood items, and manufacturing building materials. The Tuvan diet primarily consists of meat (mutton, beef, horse, goat, camel, reindeer, and wild game), fish, roots, cedar nuts, and dairy products. Tuvans enjoy drinking airag (fermented milk) on special occasions.
Obstacles
Mongolia is a difficult place to live. Missionaries will need to be willing to live in a harsh, windy climate.
How reach
There is a complete Bible and other gospel materials in their language. Gospel workers can distribute them to the Tuvan people in Mongolia.
Pray for p g
Pray that Christian radio and television broadcasts will be made available to Tuvans wherever they live. Ask the Holy Spirit to soften the hearts of Tuvans toward Christ and that they will be become receptive to him. Pray this will be the decade of an unstoppable movement to Christ among the Tuvan people.

Summary
The religion of the early residents of the Mongolian region recognized only one uniform godly power, localized in the celestial vault. They also worshiped certain natural phenomena, and believed in a life after death in the form of spirits (demons). The artwork of the people, their great poetic talents, their epic works and the lyric poetry are outstanding. Singers and poets used to walk from camp to camp, singing their songs and epics, reflecting the expression of freedom and the immensity of the Mongolian steppes.
Obstacles
Mongolia is a large country, and many people live in rural areas.
How reach
Perhaps Mongolian Christians will be burdened to carry the Gospel to the Dzakhchin people. We can pray to that end.
Pray for church
The Lord is building his church in Mongolia. Pray for Dzakshin believers to be well instructed in the faith, resting fully on Christ and his finished work on the cross.
Pray for p g
Pray the Dzakhchin people won't be overlooked as Christian workers take the Gospel throughout Mongolia. Pray also that these people will be able to care adequately for their families.

Summary
The Dariganga love music, folk dances, chess, and sporting events. Every July, the ancient Naadam festival is celebrated throughout Mongolia. Sporting events are held in horse racing, archery, and wrestling. In the late 1500s, the Mongols were introduced to Tibetan Buddhism, and most Mongols converted to Buddhism at that time. Today, a number of Dariganga have returned to the beliefs of their forefathers. Shamans are once again called upon to cure the sick or alleviate evil spirits through divination, oracles, and astrology.
Obstacles
The Dariganga have a worldview very different from the Christian worldview. This is an obstacle to faith, but not an overwhelming obstacle.
How reach
Pray that Christian Mongolians of other tribes may be burdened to carry the Gospel message to the Dariganga. They are concentrated around the town of Dariganga.
Pray for church
The Lord is building his church in Mongolia, and exciting things are happening. Pray the followers of Jesus among the Dariganga will grow in numbers and influence among their own people.
Pray for p g
Pray the Dariganga community will hunger to know the living Christ, and that many will become his zealous disciples.

Summary
The earliest ancestors of the Uzbeks, the Central Asian Turks, aided Genghis Khan in his conquest of Eastern Europe in the 1300s. Eventually, as unity between the Turks and Mongols faded, numerous warring kingdoms were formed. It was from several of these kingdoms that the Uzbeks descended. By the mid-1800s, most of the Uzbeks had been conquered by the Russians. Others lived in Mongolia where they were only obliquely controlled by the Soviets after the USSR was established in 1917.
Obstacles
Most Uzbeks are Muslim in name only. A good number of them are very secularized.
How reach
Uzbek families are extended, with a patriarchal authority ruling over several generations. Each village has an elder, and several villages comprise an elat. Each elat is governed by a council of male elders. Missionaries can make a point of reaching these male elders who can open the door for a people movement among Uzbeks.
Pray for church
Pray that the few followers of Christ among the Uzbeks in Mongolia will let the light of Jesus shine through them in their communities, so people can see holiness and spiritual transformation.
Pray for p g
Pray that Christian Uzbek leaders would be willing to take Christ to the Uzbeks in Mongolia. Pray that new Uzbek believers would understand God's Word quickly and commit themselves to a local church where they will find strength. Ask God to grant wisdom and unity to mission agencies focusing on Mongolia.

Summary
Darkhads have a strong history of shamanism. Shamans supposedly treat the soul and mind and help people overcome bad luck. "Black" shamans in Mongolia maintain the shaman worldview and traditions, while "yellow" shamans have adopted Buddhist ideas. Darkhad shamans have been black shamans for hundreds of years. The Darkhads live in the beautiful mountainous Darkhad Valley, watered by countless rivers and containing 300 lakes. The area is home to some of the most powerful shamans in Mongolia.
Obstacles
The worldview of the Shamanist and Buddhist is radically different than that of the Christian.
How reach
Christian resources are not available in the Darkhat language. However, the people can largely understand standard Mongolian, and many resources are available in this language. Pray for workers.
Pray for church
There is probably not a single follower of Jesus among the Darkhad people in Mongolia and national believers are not located nearby. Pray the growing Mongolian church will be unsatisfied until they reach their Darkhad brothers and sisters.
Pray for p g
Pray the Darkhad people will be able to transition successfully into the modern world, seeking and obtaining a good education for their children.

Summary
The Torgud mainly live in the northwest provinces of Mongolia. The lives of the Torgud depend upon where they live. Some are nomadic, live in yurts and relocate about five times a year. Some live in permanent villages as farmers, cultivating dairy products as well as wheat, barley, potatoes and vegetables. Others have moved to the cities to take advantage of urban economic opportunities such as working in factories, businesses and public jobs.
Obstacles
There are very few believers among the Torgud. Roughly two thirds of the Torgud claim to be Tibetan Buddhists. Their Buddhism is highly mixed with folk religion and shamanism. Their religious system is a key part of their identity as a people.
How reach
The small church of Jesus Christ has been growing in Mongolia since 1990. Several churches have been planted and the new Mongolian believers are telling others about Jesus. One way to grow these churches would be for Christ followers to support sorely nee
Pray for church
The nomadic Torgud would benefit by having help from veterinarians for their livestock. Pray that they have access to modern medical care and medicine. Pray for a movement in which the Holy Spirit leads and empowers the Torgud people to follow Jesus Christ.

Summary
Uuld people still live the traditional, pastoral lifestyle. They raise horses, cattle, camels, goats, sheep and yak. They move four or five times a year, seeking water and grass for their animals.
Obstacles
Illiteracy is a major problem for the nomadic Uuld people. Their lifestyle is not conducive to the education of their children. Children who do go to school often have to quit school early to help with their family business of caring for animals. These factors keep them from using any printed gospel material.
How reach
The complete Bible and the JESUS Film are available in Halh Mongolian, the primary language of the Uuld. They need to hear the life-changing message of Jesus Christ who alone can free them from the fear of evil spirits and forgive their sins. Medical workers, teachers and trainers of new job skills are needed as the old nomadic lifestyle is disappearing.
Pray for p g
Radio broadcasts might be useful. Pray that the Church would take Christ to them through the airwaves. Pray that Uuld people would embrace the truths of the Bible and forsake the spirit world. Pray that strong movements to Jesus would bring whole Uuld families into rich experiences of God's blessings, and discipleship movements and church plants would abound.

Summary
The Khoton are a small group of nomadic people who live in western Mongolia. The Khoton still practice the pastoral lifestyle of their ancestors. Though they are of Turkish origin, they have spoken the Kalmyk-Oirat tongue of their neighbors since the 17th and 18th centuries. Life is often difficult for the Khoton, who roam the high valleys and plains of Mongolia and raise horses, yaks, cattle, sheep and goats. For the most part, they have resisted the efforts of the Mongolian government to settle them down in villages and cities.
Obstacles
The Khoton's religion is a curious blend of Tibetan Buddhism, Islam and folk religion. Though there is a tiny group of believers among the Khoton, the growing church movements in Mongolia have not yet reached the Khoton. It will take someone with special
How reach
The New Testament has been translated into Kalmyk-Oirat but may not be very effective due to high rates of illiteracy. What could be more productive is wider distribution of the JESUS Film along with starting a church planting movement.
Pray for church
Pray that the Khoton has access to necessary medical care and education that accommodates their lifestyles. Pray that a chain reaction is set off among them so that more families can hear the word of Jesus. Pray that kindness and compassion are priorities in the Khoton's communities.

Summary
The Dungan have a mixture of Chinese, Muslim, and Russian cultures. They are a proud, hospitable, nationalistic, and conservative people. Although they have completely cut their ties to China, they refer to themselves as Hui-Zu, or "Chinese Muslims." They are closely associated with China's Hui people. Most of them live in Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan, but there are also smaller populations in Russia, Uzbekistan, and Mongolia. The Dungan in Mongolia are considered more wealthy than neighboring ethnic groups. Along with growing vegetables, they love to keep flower gardens.
Obstacles
The Dungan have had little opportunity to hear the gospel. They remain nominally Muslim.
How reach
The only Dungan believers are in Mongolia. There is a need for believers to teach the word of God as well as to begin a church planting movement among the Dungan.
Pray for p g
Pray that God will send culturally-sensitive missionaries who will show the Dungan people the way to the cross. Pray for a Christ-ward movement to flourish among the Dungan people in the 2020s. Pray for the Dungan people to be blessed with peace, joy and spiritual prosperity as they follow Jesus Christ. Pray for Dungan leaders in Mongolia to have dreams and visions that will open their hearts to Jesus Christ and his ambassadors.

Summary
The Khamnigan Ewenki are one of the four major sections of the Ewenki peoples who live in eastern Mongolia and western China. The traditional occupation of the Ewenki is nomadic animal herding. Some Ewenki have moved to Mongolian cities in hope of a better life.
Obstacles
Nomadic people are particularly difficult to reach with the gospel. The Ewenki may see Christianity in a negative light due to their experience of Russian imperialism in past generations.
How reach
Christian medical teams can bring modern medicine and the gospel to the Ewenki.
Pray for church
Pray that the few Ewenki followers of Christ would grow strong in the faith. Pray for the Lord to raise up faithful pastors and Bible teachers for the Ewenki church.
Pray for p g
Pray for the Lord to provide for the physical and spiritual needs of the Ewenki believers as a testimony of his power and love. Pray that the Ewenki in Mongolia would have a spiritual hunger that will open their hearts to the Lord. Pray for workers who are driven by the love and boldness of the Holy Spirit to go to the Ewenki. Pray for a movement to Christ among all four groups of Ewenki to begin this decade.
