Summary
The name Drukpa has been derived from their original habitat, known as the land of the Dragon (druka). The Drukpa refer to their country as Druk-yul, the land of the thunder dragon. Bhutan was closed off to the rest of the world for centuries, as the dragon held this group under the tight grip of Buddhism. The Drukpa believe they have been Buddhists since Padmasambhava flew across the Himalayas on the back of a tiger to bring Buddhism in 746 AD. Young men are required to make an oath of allegiance to Buddha at age 15. Only in recent years as the Gospel started to gain a small foothold among the Drukpa.
Obstacles
Bhutan is more open to outsiders today than in former times, but access to the people remains something of a challenge.
How reach
The Church is growing in Nepal. Perhaps Nepali Christians will minister to the Drukpa not only in Nepal, but will include Bhutan as they minister.
Pray for church
There are Christian believers among the Drukpa of Bhutan. Please pray the Lord will protect their faith and will teach them how to live holy lives, filled with His Spirit. Pray they will be given an interest in telling family and friends how they also can know the creator God.
Pray for p g
The Drukpa are the largest ethnic group in Bhutan. They are strategic insofar as reaching the entire country with the Gospel. Pray the Lord will open their hearts to his invitation to come to him in faith, believing.

Summary
The Monpa live in Arunachal Pradesh, NE India, and Bhutan. Most are allied with the Gelug sect of Tibetan Buddhism. Elements of the ancient Bon religion can still be found in the practices of the Monpa. The "spirit of the tiger" has been an influence, which may torment people as they sleep. They are skilled in making wood carvings, and learned to manufacture paper from the pulp of a certain tree. After marriage, the newly married couple moves into the home of the bride's parents. They are mostly farmers, and raise livestock. The 6th Dalai Lama was a Monpa.
Obstacles
Bhutan does not provide a welcome to Christian missionaries.
How reach
There are some indigenous Christians in Bhutan. Pray these Christians will be given a heart to take the good news about Jesus to other people groups in that country and region. Pray they will communicate the message accurately.
Pray for church
There may be a few believers among the Monpa of Bhutan and India, but this is uncertain. Pray for any believers to be taught by God's Spirit how to quickly confess sin, and how to walk in the power of the Lord's Spirit, demonstrating love, joy, and peace.
Pray for p g
Pray for the Monpa to be completely set free from the bondage of evil spirits. Pray they will be given a hunger to know the living God.

Summary
The Ngalop or Ngalong have their origins in Tibet and migrated to Bhutan in the 800 's. They are at the forefront in politics and culture in Bhutan particularly in the capital Thimpu and northern and western Bhutan. The Ngalop speak Dzongkha which is the main Bhutanese language and is spoken by the government and in schools. Tibetan Buddhism is their main religion. A smaller number of them follow the Bon religion which is similar. The Ngalop eat red rice, potatoes and barley. Their houses are built of timber, stone, bricks and clay. Most of the government and the monarchy are Ngalop. The Ngalop have built monasteries that are used as government offices.
Obstacles
There are probably no Christ followers among the Ngalong people to tell others about Jesus Christ. They will need to hear from outsiders.
How reach
Dzongkha is the language of the Ngalong people. There are all kinds of gospel materials in this language.
Pray for p g
Pray for the Ngalong people to have access to gospel materials. Pray for them to have the spiritual hunger it takes to seek, find and embrace Jesus. Pray for gospel workers to go to them.

Summary
The Sharchop, or Tsangla, are outwardly Tibetan Buddhists, but the majority continue to practice shamanistic and polytheistic rituals. Many rural people practice "river burial," by which a corpse is cut into 108 pieces and hurled into a rushing river. The Sharchop believe that all disease is caused by demons. They feel they are forced to sacrifice their valuable cattle and horses to pacify the angry demons. They also believe humans can be demons who cause sickness.
Obstacles
With government policies of isolation, Bhutan does not provide easy access for Christian workers.
How reach
Perhaps Christians from Nepal and India will be given a burden to carry the good news of Christ to the Sharchop of Bhutan.
Pray for church
Please pray for the few followers of Jesus among this large Buddhist group, that they will be drawn to fellowship together, and will be firmly established upon the truth of Scripture.
Pray for p g
Pray the Sharchop community will increasingly become aware of their need for forgiveness of sin, and that provision for that forgiveness has been provided in the person and work of Christ.

Summary
The Kheng are found primarily in south central Bhutan and speak Khengkha. The southernmost areas inhabited by the Kheng are off-limits to foreign travelers because of the threat posed by separatist groups across the border in the Indian state of Assam.
Obstacles
The Kheng are Tibetan Buddhists, but the shamanistic Bon religion greatly influences their belief. It is very difficult for them to understand or embrace the ways of Christ.
How reach
The few believers among the Kheng may be able to communicate the gospel message to the remainder of their people. They will need the burden, courage, love and the power of the Holy Spirit to make any inroads into this Tibetan Buddhist community.
Pray for church
Pray that the few Kheng who came to Christ in the early 1990s would grow spiritually, find favor with family and friends, and safeguard the faith until the end. Pray they would have a burden for their community for the sake of Christ.
Pray for p g
Pray that the Kheng would be given the opportunity to hear the gospel in their mother tongue and in a manner they can fully understand. Pray for spiritual discernment and a hunger for truth. Pray for increased availability and use of gospel resources and workers in their own language.

Summary
The Bumthangpa take their name from their main habitation, Bumthang District. They call themselves People of Bumthang. Bumthang is believed to have been the first inhabited place in Bhutan. Many of the Bumthangpa (Bhotia) immigrated to Bhutan from Tibet in the eighth century. Because of their history of isolation from other nations, they do not trust outsiders. They are conservative by nature and value their ancient traditions.
Obstacles
The remoteness of these people is an obstacle. The area is geographically remote for many workers, and the Bhutanese government has long imposed entry restrictions.
Pray for p g
Pray this tribe will soon hunger to know the light of the gospel, and that each individual will hear the gospel in such a way as to understand and accept it. Pray for gospel workers to catch a vision for reaching the Bumthangpa for Jesus, and that in God's sovereign timing their hearts would be open and ready to follow him. Pray for Jesus movements to bless extended families so the gospel will spread rapidly among this people group. Pray for the spiritual lives of the Bumthangpa to become fruitful as they follow Christ. Pray for the lives and culture of the Bumthangpa to bear witness to the rule and reign of the Kingdom of God as they open to the gospel.

Summary
The importance of Tibetan Buddhism and the unity that it fosters are best seen among the Matpa during festivals and ceremonies. The entire community attends, dressed in their finest festive attire. Participants wear gruesome masks depicting powerful demons, and stories are told of how the Buddhist sage Padmasambhava defeated demonic forces with the truth of Buddhism.
Obstacles
Being an official Buddhist kingdom, Bhutan has been largely isolated from the influence of Christianity for centuries, until recent decades, when migrants from Nepal and India introduced the faith to the country on a significant scale for the first time. The Buddhist groups, however, have remained largely untouched by the gospel. They see Christianity as a foreign religion with little relevance to their lives. Others see Christianity as a threat to traditional Bhutanese values and culture. There have been few, if any, gospel inroads into Tibetan Buddhist cultures.
Pray for p g
Please pray for all the people groups of Bhutan, that the Lord will send the knowledge of the truth about his son, Jesus, to them with great power. Pray for the Lord to pave the way for gospel outreach among the Matpa. Pray for long-term workers who will produce gospel materials in their language. Pray for Matpa family leaders to be drawn to the King of kings. Pray for a contextualized gospel that will not be seen as foreign.

Summary
The Dzala inhabit the highlands along the upper course of the Kholongchu River in the Yangtse District. In 1995, Yangtse was granted administrative status as a fully-fledged district of Bhutan. It was previously a sub-district of Trashigang and is often referred to as Trashi-Yangtse. The Dzala language is also spoken as far west as the Kurichu River in Lhuntse District. The speakers of Dzala in Lhuntse, however, refer to themselves as the Khoma and to their language as Khomakha, Khomakha has been listed as a dialect of Dzala. The part of Bhutan inhabited by the Dzala is extremely poor. Many visitors say it is like stepping back to medieval times. Life is simple and slow-paced.
Obstacles
Tibetan Buddhism has been the spiritual stronghold of the Dzala for more than 1,300 years. Buddhism entered Bhutan from Tibet, and visits from lamas and monks from Tibet, India, and Nepal maintained and strengthened Buddhism here over the centuries. The Dzala view their identity and culture as inextricably linked to Buddhism. Someone would need to go to them with oral materials. There are a few, but enough to get the basic gospel message to the Dzala.
Pray for p g
Pray for loving and dedicated workers to go to the Dzala until they have strong Christian believers among them. Pray for them to have the spiritual hunger to seek and find the only Savior. Pray for a soon-coming movement to Christ among the Dzala of Bhutan.

Summary
Nyenpa people live in central Bhutan. The ethnic name of this group, Nyenpa, or 'people of Nyen ', is probably derived from the term Ngenlung, or 'ancient region '. This is the name the Tibetan sage Kunkhen Longchen Ramjam used to refer to west central Bhutan in the 14th century. The name of their language, Nyenkha, literally means 'ancient language '.
Obstacles
There has been persecution and even deportation of anyone who is a Christ follower in Bhutan. Few if any from the Nyenpa people would dare give their allegiance to Jesus for this reason.
How reach
Perhaps Nyenpa people who live outside Bhutan can be reached for the Lord. Otherwise, it will be an uphill battle to get them the gospel. Perhaps people can start by praying for their communities to be spiritually open to Jesus Christ.
Pray for p g
Pray for a spiritual hunger that will lead the Nyenpa people to seek, find and embrace the King of kings. Pray for loving and dedicated workers to go to them. Pray for the Lord to open the door for gospel witness. Pray for a movement to Christ among the Nyenpa people.

Summary
Lakha (Wylie: La-kha) literally "language of the mountain pass," a Southern Tibetan language spoken in the Wangdue Phodrang and Trongsa Districts of central Bhutan. These people are descendants of pastoral yak herding communities and follow the Buddhist religion.
Obstacles
There are virtually no Christian resources in their language. Being oral communicators, it is necessary to make audio recordings of the gospel message for them in their own language.
How reach
The Lord will need to intervene to ensure these remote people have a chance to hear about the only way to salvation.
Pray for p g
Pray that a field recordist from Global Recordings Network will be able to visit them and make this kind of recording. Pray for the Lord to give them dreams and visions of the risen Christ, preparing the way for them to embrace the only savior. Pray for loving and dedicated gospel workers.

Summary
The Sherpa, despite being a relatively small group, are one of the most well-known peoples of Asia. For many, the name Sherpa is inextricably linked to the mystique of Mount Everest, the highest mountain on earth. Though they are more numerous in Nepal, there are also Sherpas in China, Bhutan and even the United States.
Obstacles
There are no Sherpa Christian believers in Bhutan, so they will need to hear from Sherpas in other places. Bhutan does not have adequate roads for gospel workers to travel.
How reach
In 1985, a Sherpa boy in Nepal had a vision in which Jesus visited him. The boy's conversion was followed by the gradual conversion of his extended family and several families in his village. The boy later went to Bible school and returned to pastor the local church in his village. We can pray for Sherpas in Bhutan to also have such visions.
Pray for p g
Pray for the Lord to draw Sherpas in Bhutan to Christ through dreams and visions, and through gospel workers from Nepal. Pray for the Sherpas to understand the glory, holiness and power of the Lord of lords. Pray for Sherpa disciples to make more disciples.

Summary
Shaikh is an Arabic term that is usually attributed to the leaders or elders of Arabian social groups. After the advent of Islam in South Asia, some high caste (Brahmins, Muslim Rajputs and Khatris) converted to Islam in South Asia's Punjab region and adopted this title. They are known as Punjabi Shaikh (Punjabi). Though the vast majority of South Asian Shaikhs are either in India or Pakistan, there is a smaller number in Nepal and Bhutan. The Shaikhs are not bound by one particular profession. It is likely that the Shaikhs in Bhutan do not hold the high status that they do in other South Asian countries, since they are Muslims. Bhutan is primarily Tibetan Buddhist.
Obstacles
Bhutan is highly difficult to reach with the gospel, partly because of it's geography, and partly because of the stronghold of Tibetan Buddhism. Shaikhs are Muslims living in a Buddhist land. There are many layers of deception that can keep them away from the only Savior.
How reach
There are believers in neighboring Nepal who can go to Bhutan and reach the Muslim Shaikhs.
Pray for church
There are no followers of Christ among the Shaikhs in Bhutan, so pray that this changes soon.
Pray for p g
Pray that the Shaikhs in Bhutan will understand that they need a Savior who is none other than Jesus Christ. Since there are few ways for the gospel to get to these Muslims in a Buddhist country, pray that the Lord reveals himself to Shaikhs in unusual ways such as dreams and visions. Pray that the Holy Spirit will touch the hearts of Shaikhs to study the Injil (New Testament) and learn to pattern their lives after Jesus.

Summary
The name Tamang means "horse trader." They are generally very poor people. The majority of Tamang follow Tibetan Buddhism, but mix this heavily with animism and to a lesser extent, with Hinduism. Their priests, or lamas, have a dominant role in the community and perform ceremonies for funerals, etc. Perhaps the most powerful person in society, however, is the shaman, who exorcises demons and interacts with the spirit world. Most of the Tamang live in Nepal.
Obstacles
The area is more open to outsiders than it has been in previous times, but there is still some difficulty in entering.
How reach
The smaller Tamang group in India has a signicant number of Christian believers. Perhaps these followers of Christ will see the need to carry the Gospel to the remainder of their own people in Nepal. Please pray to this end.
Pray for church
There are some followers of Jesus today among the Tamang of Nepal. Pray for these, and for those others the Lord will soon bring to himself. Pray they will seek each other out in order to fellowship together. Pray they will be zealous to know Christ, and follow his ways.
Pray for p g
Pray for the entire Tamang community to be able to care well for their families, to find ways to generate income and meet basic needs. Pray they will make schooling a priority for their children.

Summary
The Tseku live in the high, remote Himalayan Mountains, and they are small enough that they have escaped the notice of most outsiders. Since their language is similar to the Kham Tibetans, they are probably confused with that larger people group. The lifestyle of peoples in this part of the world is grim. Freezing, blizzardlike weather is the norm, so people groups like the Tseku either adapt to the climate or they perish. Their food source usually comes from the meat and milk from their livestock and from barley and rice.
Obstacles
Few if any believers are willing to live in such a remote, inhospitable land. Tibetan Buddhism is also a major spiritual obstacle.
How reach
There are believers in China who are trying to take the gospel "back to Jerusalem" which means that the peoples of Tibet and Bhutan are on their radar screen.
Pray for church
There are no believers among the Tseku people in Bhutan, and perhaps a very small number in China. Pray for the Lord to bring about a movement to Christ in the 2020s.
Pray for p g
Pray for the Holy Spirit to give the Tseku people teachable and understanding hearts. Pray for a strong movement of the Holy Spirit will bring entire Tseku families into a rich experience of God's blessing. Pray for teams of believers to do sustained, focused prayer for the Lord to open the hearts of Tseku family leaders to experience God's blessing through a movement of family-based discovery Bible studies.

Summary
Bhutan was closed off to the rest of the world for centuries. The Bhotia believe they have been Buddhists since the Tibetan sage Padmasambhava flew across the Himalayas on the back of a tiger and introduced Buddhism to Bhutan in 746 AD. Only in recent years has the Gospel of Christ started to gain a foothold. Young men are required to make an oath of allegiance to Buddha at age 15.
Obstacles
Bhutan is not as closed to the outside world as it once was, but access is still limited. But the larger obstacle is the mindset of the prevailing religion.
How reach
Sustained prayer is needed to prepare the hearts of the people of Bhutan to understand the message of Christ, and to believe.
Pray for church
Pray for the followers of Jesus among the Bhotia community, that their faith in Christ will be strengthened by regular fellowship together. Pray for an accurate understanding of the grace offered by Christ, and that they will desire to be obedient to Christ's teachings.
Pray for p g
Pray for the Bhotia to escape the bondage of their current religion. Pray for hunger to find a solution to their sin problem.

Summary
The Brahmins are the highest of the four castes of Hinduism. The vast majority of the Brahmins live in India. A small Brahmin group makes their home in the Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan. Since Bhutan is primarily a Buddhist nation, the rights and privileges of being a Brahmin are not as pronounced as they are in Hindu parts of South Asia. The Brahmins are well-educated and they are owners of land and businesses. There are few, if any, believers among the Brahmins of Bhutan. Most Brahmins speak multiple languages, including Hindi and English.
Obstacles
Brahmins are often proud of their high status in Hinduism. They tend to see Christianity as a foreign religion only for the poor and outcastes. They see themselves as the preservers and teachers of Hinduism.
How reach
Christians can make friends with Brahmins and tell them about the Lord Jesus. Many resources are available in Assamese, the primary language of the Brahmins of Bhutan.
Pray for p g
Ask the Lord to send loving workers to the Brahmins of Bhutan. Pray that the Brahmins would be open to reading the Assamese Bible and investigating the claims of Jesus Christ. Pray that Christians in Bhutan would reach out and share the good news with the Brahmins. Ask the Lord to raise up a disciple making movement among the Brahmins of Bhutan in this decade.

Summary
For thousands of years in Hindu society, "sudra" or "shudra" was a reference to those of the servant caste. These people have always held the lowest status. Among these communities are the Namassej, or Namasudra people. The vast majority live in West Bengal and other places where Hinduism is dominant, but some live in Bhutan, where Tibetan Buddhism erases caste distinctions.
Obstacles
The Namasudra people do not know what Christ can do to transform their communities and give them life to the full.
How reach
Their basic need is for economic restoration and socio-political rehabilitation. A large section of this community is living below poverty line, lacking all kinds of infrastructural facilities. They need economic boosting, jobs, better accommodations, and better social acceptance.
Pray for church
Pray that this tiny minority will be so filled with the fruit and the power of the Holy Spirit that they will show others what Christ can do in their lives and in their communities.
Pray for p g
Pray that God will reveal to the Namasudras how much the true and living God loves them. Pray that soon they will be discipled in the ways of the one with the "true name" who gave his life to save sinners and provide abundant life.

Location in country
George van Driem writes, 'Brokpa is spoken in and around Mera, where there are approximately 400 Brokpa households, and in and around Sakteng, where there are approximately six hundred Brokpa households'. These two locations are within the Trashigang District in eastern Bhutan, close to the border with the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh.

Summary
Most of the Dakpa are farmers. Their principal crops include corn, barley, and beets. They work long hours in the fields in order to produce enough to feed their families. Other important activities include herding yaks and sheep. Since only about 3% of the land in Bhutan is available for farming, the fields are often built in terraces up the mountain sides. The most distinctive part of the Dakpa outfit is the unique felt hat. The hats are flat felt discs made from yak hair. Each hat has five tail-like "spouts" that allow water to drain and the head to stay dry. The Dakpa are virtually 100% Buddhist, following the "Red Hat" sect of Tibetan Buddhism. In addition, traditional Tibetan shamanism is practiced by some. The Dakpa remain isolated and resistant to the Gospel.
Obstacles
Geographic isolation makes access to the Dakpa difficult, and the country of Bhutan does not welcome Christian witness.
How reach
Translation of scripture into the Brokpake language is needed, as well as Gospel recordings. Pray for funds and workers.
Pray for church
There are a few followers of Christ among the Dakpa. Pray they will grow in their faith. Pray they will desire to share the good news of Christ with family and friends, not being unduly timid. Pray that scripture will soon become available in their language.
Pray for p g
Pray these Buddhist peoples may be given the gift of awareness of sin, and the need for a Savior. Pray their hearts will be prepared when the good news of Christ comes to them.

Summary
Hundreds of years ago the Chhetri people group was formed by the intermarriage of several people groups that had settled in the mountains of Nepal. Later the Chhetri became fierce warriors and conquered most of Nepal. The name Chhetri is based on a word for warrior. In 1768 one Chhetri family formed the royal family of Nepal. Today the Chhetri community is most numerous in Nepal, though some have migrated to Indian's northeastern states and Bhutan.
Obstacles
The Chhetri people of Bhutan are a proud people who can easily fall into the trap of putting their hope and identity in the accomplishments of their ancestors. They need the humility to understand that Jesus is the only one who offers hope.
How reach
There are strong believers in Nepal and northeastern India who can reach out to the Chhetri people of Bhutan.
Pray for church
As far as we know, there are no followers of Christ among the Chhetri people in Bhutan. Pray for a move of the Holy Spirit in their communities.
Pray for p g
Pray that Indian believers would lead the Chhetri people to Jesus Christ. Pray that gospel recordings would lead them to salvation. Pray for them to be discipled in the ways of Jesus Christ.

Summary
Members of the Bania caste are among the wealthiest people in the world. They are involved with businesses and money lending. A Bania might be the proud owner of a giant business, a small one, or he might be working in a bank. He might even own the bank. Others work in government ministries or as lawyers, judges, teachers, scholars, stockbrokers, or engineers. Banias are often resented by other communities, because they lend much needed money at high interest rates.
Obstacles
Materialism is a huge obstacle for people like the Banias who have dedicated their lives to making money. They are Hindus in a Tibetan Buddhist country, where they have very little chance to hear about Jesus.
How reach
There are strong believers in some of India's neighboring states such as Nagaland. Pray that they will be called and sent to the Banias in Bhutan.
Pray for church
There are few believers among Banias, and almost no one is reaching out to any of their communities. Pray that this will soon change.
Pray for p g
Pray that the veil of deception will be lifted from the eyes of the Banias in Bhutan and that they will see that the only true wealth is the spiritual riches gained through a loving relationship with Jesus Christ. Pray that Christ's disciples will be called to work among them and share Christ in a culturally relevant way. Pray for a disciple making movement to emerge among the Bania community in Bhutan.

Summary
Collectively, the Rai are known as very courageous, daring, and fearless people. In recent history, they have won worldwide respect for their bravery in the Royal Nepalese Army. Joining the army is often a way out of enduring economic hardship. It also brings respect and honor, especially for those of high military rank.
Obstacles
These Rai people live in Bhutan, one of the least accessible countries in the world. There are very few believers near where they live, so missionaries must come from elsewhere.
How reach
Not far away from Bhutan are some of India's most evangelized states. Believers from those states can go to the Rai people in Bhutan.
Pray for church
There are no believers among the Rai people in Bhutan, so pray that the Holy Spirit moves in their region and opens hearts to the Lord.
Pray for p g
Ask God to call out prayer teams to break up the soil through worship and intercession. Pray that the Lord of the harvest will raise up long-term laborers to live and work among the Rai people in Bhutan. Ask the Holy Spirit to complete the work begun in the hearts of the few Rai believers through adequate discipleship. Ask the Holy Spirit to open the hearts of Nepal's governmental leaders to the gospel. Ask the Lord to raise up a triumphant church among the Rai for the glory of His name!

Summary
The Newah, better known as the Newar, is a prestigious community found mainly in Nepal, though a few live in India and Bhutan. They are the historical inhabitants of the Kathmandu Valley of Nepal. They were farmers and traders at a time when there was peace and stability in this region, resulting in greater prosperity for this community. Stability allowed Newar people to develop art, architecture, and culture in their region.
Obstacles
Prestige and wealth often deaden spiritual hunger for fallen mankind.
How reach
It will be very difficult to reach this high-status community. Those who go to them must also have high standings, and such peoples are few and far between in Hindu and Buddhist cultures.
Pray for church
Although there are about 1,000 Newar believers in Jesus, there is much work to be done before this group can be considered adequately reached with the gospel.
Pray for p g
Pray that the Newar will avail themselves of the Bible, and that God will call and equip people and agencies to evangelize them. Pray that God will embolden Newar believers to witness to their neighbors. Pray also for Spirit-led prayer teams to undergird these efforts with prayer. Pray for a powerful move of the Holy Spirit among the Newar people in Bhutan that will result in many being discipled in His ways.

Summary
Walang people have been traders in past times. When modern roads and transportation killed trade through the Walang area, many people were left in turmoil because they had completely relied on trade as their source of income. There were few crops planted in the Walang villages and few kept animals. They are still struggling with an economic transition.
Obstacles
Walang people adhere to Buddhism. The Walang are a desperately needy unreached people group. They have no Scripture, JESUS Film or gospel recordings in their heart language, Walungge. Few have ever been exposed to the gospel in a meaningful way that would allow them to intelligently accept or reject Christ. It is extremely difficult for outsiders to get to rural Bhutan.
How reach
Passionate and consistent prayer is most likely the only possible outreach at this time.
Pray for p g
Without a single Christian believer, the Walang community will need people from India and Nepal to go to them. Pray that the Lord would raise up faithful intercessors for Walang people so there will be a strong movement to Christ among them. Pray that true churches would be planted and disciples trained among them.

Summary
The Lhop have a reputation of being shy, kind and gentle; their name Doya (daya) means kind-hearted. The history and the origin of the Lhop remains a mystery, but the Lhops have lived and evolved as a part of the Am Mo Chhu valley since time immemorial. According to a tradition in Satakha, one of the Lhop villages, they worship a deity called Talang.
Obstacles
The Lhop reside in a remote area of the world.
How reach
Christian workers can carry the Gospel message to these people using oral means of communication: stories, films, and recordings.
Pray for church
There may be no followers of Christ among the Lhop community at present, but pray for the ones the Lord will soon lead to himself. Pray they become well established in the faith, trusting Christ fully and following him faithfully.
Pray for p g
Pray that God will overthrow spiritual forces of darkness opposing the spread of His Gospel. Pray the Lhop community will be prepared to enter the 21st century, educating their children and with skills to make them employable.

Summary
The Rongkup live in the thick forests, valleys and hills of southwestern Bhutan, which is the world's only official Buddhist kingdom. Most Rongkup engage in farming rice, millet, barley, maize, and wheat along with fruit and vegetables. In addition to farming, the Lepcha also specialize in carpentry, spinning and weaving. There is no division of labor based on gender. They have an oral culture. Dances, music on traditional instruments and singing take place on holidays.
Obstacles
Most of the Lepcha are Buddhists. They practice two major religious philosophies: Lamaism, derived from Buddhism, and Mun, a folk religion. The Rongkup are gentle and live peacefully with little crime in their villages. They believe that aggression destroys the community, and so may not be that hostile to outsiders. Despite this, there could still be obstacles to outreach.
How reach
The Rongkup people would benefit from the installation of solar panels and availability of medical services. Christians can start schools so they can read the Rongkup Bible. The Rongkup people need to hear a clear presentation of the good news of Jesus Christ.
Pray for p g
Ask the Lord to send Christian medical personnel and teachers to share the love of Jesus with the Rongkup of Bhutan. Pray for the availability of Christian radio broadcasts and evangelical literature. Pray for a strong church planting movement for all Rongkup communities.

Summary
The Nupbi live in and around the town of Trongsa in central Bhutan. Trongsa is the capital of the district of the same name. The town has had a large influx of immigrants from Tibet, and Bhutanese of Tibetan descent run most shops there. Being Tibetan Buddhists, the Nupbi practice sky burial, in which the dead person's corpse is taken to the top of a hill, brutally cut into pieces with an axe and left for the vultures and other birds of prey to devour. There has never been a Christian community among the Nupbi people. For centuries their ancestors have lived and died without the slightest knowledge of the gospel, their bodies devoured by birds of prey.
Obstacles
Much spiritual darkness has pervaded the hearts and minds of the Nupbi people for generations.
How reach
Much sustained prayer is needed for the Buddhist tribes of Bhutan. Pray for a movement of prayer to be raised up for this purpose.
Pray for church
There are no known followers of Jesus among the Nubpi people.
Pray for p g
Please pray for the light of the gospel to soon be sent to this tribe.

Summary
Magars are one of the oldest known tribes in Nepal; however, their origin is unclear. They are believed to be of Tibetan descent because their language and dances are similar to those within the Tibetan culture. Some of the Magar people live in the plains where the Himalayan hills begin. Others occupy the lower hills of the Mahabharat Lekh while a few inhabit the high-altitude mountain areas. The Magars are divided into several groups: Western, Eastern, and Southern.
Obstacles
Bhutan is among the hardest mission fields in the world. It is geographically inaccessible, and the spiritual opposition is fierce.
How reach
There are many Magar believers in India who can go to the completely unreached Magars in Bhutan.
Pray for church
Pray for the Bible to be translated, and for courage for the few Magar believers to be true to their faith.
Pray for p g
Pray for spiritual hunger among Magar people in Bhutan. Pray that Christ-centered fellowships and a disciple making movement will take root in Magar society. Pray for the Bible to be translated and courage for the few Magar believers to be true to their faith.

Summary
Bhutan is a landlocked country in South Asia. It is situated in the Eastern Himalayas between China in the north and India in the south. Adi people live mainly in China and India, and only a very small number live in Bhutan. Historically a remote people, the Adi continue to be socially and economically isolated. Even their villages tend to remain separate from one another, governing themselves by individual rules and councils. Wealth is measured in domesticated animals, jewelry and land ownership.
Obstacles
Adi people in Bhutan do not understand that the Lord offers far better guidance than their shamans and religious leaders.
How reach
The complete Bible is available in the Adi language, including online, audio and visual resources, as well as the JESUS Film. They lack a personal witness to share the gospel message with them.
Pray for p g
Pray for key members of Adi communities in Bhutan to hear and receive the good news. Pray that the Lord would begin a church planting movement that will provide all Adi people with the opportunity to know their Creator and the Son he sent to save them. Pray for the Lord to thrust out loving workers to the Adi people. Pray that Adi people in Bhutan would experience God' wonderful grace and begin to tell others about him.

Summary
Nothing was known about the small Gongduk ethnic group until the Dutch linguist George van Driem discovered them in 1991. The people pass themselves off as Kheng when they meet outsiders. Just why they do this is uncertain, as they have their own unique culture and language that is not mutually intelligible with Kheng. The Gongduk live in a few extremely isolated villages in Bhutan's Mongar District. The religious beliefs of the Gongduks are a mix of Tibetan Buddhism and animistic spirit worship. Throughout two thousand years of Christianity, the good news that Jesus Christ died for the sins of the world has never entered the remote enclave inhabited by the Gongduk.
Obstacles
Access to the Gongduk is difficult. No scripture or other Christian resources are reported to be available in their language. The people do not know the Christian faith.
Pray for p g
Pray for the gospel to penetrate the Gongduk homeland and the hearts of their family leaders. Pray this small, isolated people group will be able to survive and even thrive in the rapidly changing world we live in today. Pray their culture will survive, even while the people come to know and follow Jesus. Ask God to send discerning workers to reach the Gongduk.

Summary
The Loba live largely in the Mustang district of Bhutan, which extends north into what would otherwise be China. Until 1952 this small group had their own Buddhist kingdom, which was established around 1380 AD. Some Loba practice polyandry, where one woman has more than one husband, with the men probably being brothers. Almost all Loba are zealous believers in Tibetan Buddhism. There are many temples and monasteries throughout their territory. Some years ago several Loba were relocated outside their territory because of great floods, and this has brought some into contact with Christianity for the first time.
Obstacles
Buddhism teaches a very different worldview than that of the Bible. Much readjustment in ones' thinking is necessary to begin to understand and believe.
How reach
We can pray the few Christians among the Loba will soon become strong enough to take the Gospel to their entire people group. They are not a large people group.
Pray for church
There have been a few Christians reported among the Loba. Pray they will be nurtured by the Lord's Spirit and that they will grow in numbers and maturity.
Pray for p g
Pray the strongly Buddhist Loba will be given a knowledge of their sin and need for a Savior. As they hunger to know forgiveness pray the Lord will send knowledge of his Son's death and provision for forgiveness to them.

Summary
Lhuntse District, home of the Kurteop, is extremely isolated. As recently as 1998, one book noted, "It is very rural and there are fewer than five vehicles, including the ambulance, and not a single petrol station in the whole district." Formerly known as Kurtoe, the region is the ancestral home of Bhutan's royal family. Lhuntse is famous in Bhutan for its weaving, embroidery, and basket-making. There is no large-scale industry here, and many families earn their livelihood by weaving in their homes. Tibetan Buddhism dominates the lives of all people in this part of Bhutan. It is considered a great honor for a family to send its sons to the monastery for a time.
Obstacles
There will be spiritual opposition as Jesus is presented in this Buddhist land. There is no scripture available in their language with the exception of Gospel recordings.
How reach
There are a number of indigenous followers of Christ in Bhutan. Pray that some will be sent to the Kurteop people, that they won't be overlooked.
Pray for church
It is questionable if there is a single follower of Jesus among the Kurteop tribe. If there are some, they need prayer. And pray for those in the tribe who will soon become Christian disciples. Pray they will be set free from dark spiritual forces that have inhabited the valleys of Bhutan for generations.
Pray for p g
Pray this isolated tribe will be able to cope with the outside world as time moves on. They will need to adjust.

Summary
The Assamese people in Bhutan are mainly Muslim and speak Assamese. They are generally less orthodox than most Asian Muslims and are involved in many Hindu festivals and customs. They live in Bhutan, a Buddhist country. Most depend on agriculture for a living.
Obstacles
Though access is improving for ministry among the Assamese, it is still very limited. Bhutan is one of the hardest countries to access because of the geography and the local culture.
How reach
Spreading God's word through the few believers that already exist in Bhutan could help more Assamese people come to believe.
Pray for church
Pray for those who follow Jesus to live lives filled with grace and kindness. Pray for them to be leaders and to set an example of what knowing Jesus looks like in practical ways.
Pray for p g
Pray the Assamese people would find ways to let the peace of Christ rule in their families and communities. Pray that their physical and spiritual needs would be met and that they would have hope for things to come. Pray for a movement to Christ among the Assamese Muslims to spread throughout Bhutan and India.

Summary
The Munda by tradition do cultivation and today many are agricultural workers. You cannot generalize about what they do for a living. Some are basket weavers, while others are office workers. They have community councils to judge in local matters. Most of them are Hindus. The Munda worship their ancestors and things of nature like rivers and trees. They have a lot of deities, with Sing Bonga being their main one.
Obstacles
It is very difficult for anyone to enter Bhutan to share the gospel. Though the Munda people are reached in India, Bhutan is a much more difficult mission field.

There are many Munda believers from India who can reach out to the Mundas in Bhutan.
Pray for church
There are many Munda believers in India who can be used of God to reach Munda people in Bhutan.

Summary
A migrant community, the Darjee are sometimes known as Damai. They are non-vegetarian, and rice is their staple cereal. The Darjee women play a significant role in their economy by plucking tea-leaves in tea gardens for wages. The traditional occupation of the Darjee people is tailoring, but they are also noted musicians.
Obstacles
Hindu peoples like the Darjees are usually fearful of putting their faith in "other gods" rather than the ones they are used to worshipping.
How reach
Pray for workers to carry the gospel to these people, especially in oral form. Several exposures to the gospel message are usually required before there is a response.
Pray for church
Pray that the few followers of Christ among this low caste community will follow Christ with zeal and holiness. Pray they will be rooted and established in love.
Pray for p g
Pray for the Darjee people to find their hope and dignity in a relationship with Jesus Christ, the only Savior. Pray for believers to take the gospel to the Darjee people in Bhutan and begin the process of discipling them in the ways of Jesus. Pray for a strong Darjee church to emerge in Bhutan, India and Nepal.

Summary
The origin of Limbu is not certain, but they are clearly of Mongolian descent. Agriculture is their main source of income. Women are very influential within Limbu families, especially if the husbands are in the military and stay away for long periods of time.
Obstacles
Bhutan is one of the world's least evangelized nations. The Limbu are predominantly Buddhists but participate in many popular Hindu festivals. Their worldview is very different from that of Christ followers.
How reach
Limbu people need the hope and joy of knowing their Creator and following the savior who alone can forgive sins and direct their lives.
Pray for church
There are no Limbu Christian believers, so pray for Christ's ambassadors from nearby Nepal and India to reach them.
Pray for p g
Pray for a movement in which the Holy Spirit leads and empowers disciples to make more disciples who will plant churches. Pray for a movement of Jesus to heal and strengthen Limbu communities and families.

Summary
The Chali people inhabit a few villages in Mongar District, in eastern Bhutan. The area has strikingly beautiful scenery, as does most of Bhutan. The town of Mongar has a small Buddhist monastery housing fifty or sixty monks, some of whom are young boys not yet in their teens. The town proudly boasts one bank, a hospital and a post office. It sits on the top of a ridge and is protected from the wind by a row of large eucalyptus trees. The Chalikha language is not written.
Obstacles
Scripture is not reported to be available in the language of the Chali people, and access to them is difficult.
How reach
Much sustained prayer is needed for all the tribes of Bhutan. Pray the Lord will create much hunger for Truth, Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life.
Pray for church
There are no known Christians among the Chali people. Few if any have ever heard the gospel in a meaningful manner.
Pray for p g
Please pray this small tribe will be able to provide good quality education for its children, and for the youth to be prepared for a changing world around them.

Summary
High in the Himalayas is the monarchy of Bhutan. Bhutan is Buddhist, but the Sarki are Hindus. While there are some Christians among the Bhutanese, there are none among the Sarkis. Why are Hindu Sarkis living among Buddhists? They do so because of community status; cobblers and leather-working Sarkis are stigmatized by Hindus. By living here, they avoid the stigma. In reality, however, the Sarkis need a new trade because shoemaking and repair are a dying trade. As Hindus, they continue to worship several gods. Shamans are important in Sarki society. Unfortunately, their women are often subjected to sex trafficking.
Obstacles
It will be difficult to locate the Sarki in order to reach them.
How reach
The Sarkis need job training to compete outside of the shoemaking trade. They may be reached through Bengali and Bhutanese Christian tracts and radio. Christ followers who help the Sarkis stop the trafficking of their women would be excellent ambassadors for the Lord. Meanwhile, Christians may engage them as they need shoe repair.
Pray for p g
Pray for protection of Sarki women from sex trafficking. Pray for the development and acceptance of job training. Pray also for job placement. Pray Bhutanese Christians would seek them out to win them to Christ and disciple them.

Summary
The Rabha are a Scheduled Tribe in India, where most live. There is also a small contingent of Rabhas in nine districts of Bhutan. The forest Rabhas follow traditional animistic practices tinged with some rituals of mainstream Hinduism, but village Rabhas have merged with local Hindus as far as their religious practices are concerned. Rabha peoples' religious world is pervaded with various spirits and natural objects. The main deity is called Rishi. In addition, there are the deities Rungtuk and Basek. As in most tribal communities, dances and music play an important part in the lives of the Rabhas. After every ritual they perform various dances to please their deities.
Obstacles
The literacy rate of this tribe in Bhutan is likely to be low. Printed resources may have limited impact.
How reach
There are quite a number of Christians among the Rabha of India, according to the Indian census. Perhaps the Lord will call some of these Christians to carry the gospel to their tribe in Bhutan.
Pray for church
There are no indications of followers of Jesus today among the Rabha of Bhutan.
Pray for p g
Please pray the Lord will send the good news about Jesus to all of the Rabha tribe soon, and that they will be completely set free from superstition and the worship of created things.

Summary
Traditionally the Khambu people (aka, Rai) were nature worshippers. They worshipped objects of nature such as trees, rivers, and animals, but they also worshipped their ancestors. Later Hinduism was forced upon them by outsiders. Today there is an interest in the Buddhist religion among the Khambu. This is probably especially true in Bhutan, a Buddhist country.
Obstacles
It will be very difficult for believers to take the gospel to a people who live in the high mountains of South Asia.
How reach
There are hearty believers in Nagaland and other highly Christianized parts of northeastern India who can reach the Khambu and other unreached people groups.
Pray for church
There are no followers of Christ among the Khambu people either in Nepal or Bhutan. Pray for a powerful move of the Holy Spirit in their communities.
Pray for p g
Pray for spiritual openness and a desire for relationship with a holy, righteous God. Pray for the opportunity to hear of the finished work of Christ in Khambu communities. Pray that despite their remote mountainous location that believers will take them the gospel and many will be willing to be discipled in the ways of Jesus Christ.

Summary
The Lunape are a truly unreached people. They are Tibetan Buddhist, a mixture of Buddhism and pre-Buddhist shamanistic beliefs and practices of the Bon religion. Economically, they need to diversify beyond agriculture due to climate change. They speak their own language, Lunanakha.
Obstacles
No Christian materials exist in their native language, Lunanakha. There is no JESUS Film, no Bible, no tracts, no Bible recordings, nor Bible radio transmissions in their language. At this point, only those who understand Bhutanese can be reached by existing resources.
How reach
They lack a translation of the Bible and the JESUS Film in Lunanakha. Consequently, they need Christian translators.
Pray for p g
Pray for spiritual hunger and for Bible translators to meet that hunger. Pray that the JESUS Film would be available in their language. Pray for Christians to begin new industries for the Lunape.

Summary
Kachari is a generic term for a number of ethnic groups that live in the northeastern states of Assam and Nagaland, India. They are also called Dimasa. Dimasa means "children of the big river" referring to the Brahmaputra River. Most likely they reached the Brahmaputra Valley via Tibet and settled in the foothills of the eastern Himalayas. Today most live in the North Cachar Hills of Assam, India. Others live in the Indian state of Nagaland. Some have made the short migration to nearby Bhutan. They are well off financially. Some do cane and bamboo crafts or make textiles. Cultivation is their main work.
Obstacles
People who are financially well off usually need to understand that they have spiritual needs that can only be met by Jesus Christ.
How reach
There are strong believers in neighboring Nagaland who can easily reach Kachari people, both in northeastern India and in Bhutan.
Pray for church
There are no Kachari followers of Christ in Bhutan, so pray that the Holy Spirit does a new work in their communities.
Pray for p g
Pray for spiritual hunger among the Kachari people in India and Bhutan. Pray for believers to go to them as ambassadors for the king of kings. Pray that soon there will be a disciple making movement among this people group that will spread to all their communities.

Summary
The Kalaktang Monpa are believed to be the original inhabitants of the Kalaktang circle, from which they take their name. In the past, the Kalaktang Monpa did not possess a script, so their history was handed down in oral stories. Elderly Kalaktang Monpa men recall that their ancestors migrated to their present location from the Bumthang and Thalong areas in eastern Bhutan. Though most live in India's northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh, some have spilled over into neighboring Bhutan.
Obstacles
The Kalaktang Monpa people have tight-knit communities that are not at all open to outside influences.
How reach
There are believers in some of India's northeastern states that can reach the Kalaktang Monpa people, but it could easily take years of patient sowing before there is any reaping.
Pray for church
There are no believers among this Tibetan Buddhist people group. Much prayer is needed before the gospel will be able to penetrate the Kalaktang Monpa people.
Pray for p g
Pray these people will have their hearts ready to receive the good news. Ask God to send the appropriate workers to share with them the salvation and hope that Jesus brings. Pray for the Holy Spirit to bring about a powerful disciple making movement among the Kalaktang Monpa people, both in India and Bhutan.

Summary
The Khas are mountain dwellers living near or in the Himalayas. They once formed a powerful kingdom which extended from Nepal into Tibet. The Khas language is said to be the forerunner of modern-day Nepali. The Khas live in Bhutan, Nepal and northeastern India. They are hard workers who try to make a living by tending crops and livestock in a hard climate.
Obstacles
The Khas are Hindus, but they blend their religion with Buddhist elements. The gospel is a foreign concept to them.
How reach
Though there are no believers among the Khas in Bhutan, the gospel has reached a good number of those who live in India. It will be greatly effective for the people of the same community to take the gospel to their unreached relatives in Bhutan.
Pray for church
Pray that the Khas who know Christ would be properly instructed in the truth of the word, would grow in spiritual maturity and in number and would have a burden to spread the name of Christ. Pray that the Holy Spirit would fill them with power and enable them to effectively communicate the word.
Pray for p g
Pray for spiritual hunger among the Khas people in all three countries. Pray for God to raise up full time workers to bring the light of the gospel.

Summary
The oral history of the Sherdukpen says that "they originated from the marriage of a Tibetan prince with a princess of Assam, possibly of Kachari origin." Buddhism first came to the Sherdukpen in the mid-1700s, and they have remained loyal to that religion ever since.
Obstacles
Buddhism and the flexible mindset it fosters allow people to accept or reject any aspect of a faith system. It will be difficult for the Sherdukpen people to accept the truths of the gospel.
How reach
Those who reach out to the Sherdukpen can start with stories from the Bible. They may or may not accept them as spiritual truth, but it is a starting point. From there, workers can focus on those who show an inclination to the gospel.
Pray for p g
Pray for the Sherdukpen people to have a spiritual hunger that will not let them rest until they find and embrace Jesus Christ. Pray that the eyes of the Sherdukpen people would be opened, so they can see Jesus as he is. Pray for Christian believers to come to them with the gospel. Pray that soon they would be discipled in the ways of Jesus, resulting in transformed communities.
