Summary: Qatar has been ruled as an absolute and hereditary emirate by the Al Thani family since the mid-19th century. Formerly one of the poorest Gulf states, it has become one of the region's wealthiest states due to its enormous oil and natural gas revenues. In 2010, Qatar had the world's highest GDP per capita, while the economy grew by 19%, the fastest in the world. With a small citizen population of fewer than 350,000 people, foreign workers outnumber native Qataris. Foreign expatriates come mainly from other Arab nations and the Indian subcontinent. Shari 'a (Islamic law) is the main source of Qatari legislation, and is applied to aspects of family law, inheritance, and certain criminal acts.

Summary: Most of the people living in the small Persian Gulf nation of Qatar are not Qatari. They are foreign workers. One of these guest worker groups are Palestinian Arabs. Many of them send money they earn to their families in Gaza, the West Bank, Egypt, Syria, and Lebanon. Many Palestinians suffer tragic lives of poverty and neglect. The billions of dollars donated by the United Nations and the West to help the common Palestinian often ends up in the bank accounts of Palestinian leaders or is used to buy weapons. The donated money frequently does not help the lives of the Palestinian people.

Summary: Arabs from the Arabian Peninsula (ie, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, UAE, Yemen, Oman) are the original Arabs. The Arabian culture was developed by tribes of nomads and villagers who lived in the Arabian Desert for many centuries. It was also from there that Arab migrations began, eventually leading to the expansion of the Arab world starting with the Levant. Summary: Akhdam (or Muhamasheen) people mostly live in big city slums in extreme poverty and discrimination. Men work as street sweepers, and women collect cans and bottles and beg. There is no justice for them, nor education for their children.
Obstacles: Sometimes people who have known only severe poverty cannot see past their circumstances to a better future. Scripture portions are available in their language, as well as gospel films and recordings. It is difficult to get these to people in a Muslim country like Qatar.
How reach: There is a need for every kind of practical help for this poverty-stricken, unreached people group. Followers of Christ can help them with both physical and spiritual needs.

Summary: Najdi is a tribe that straddles what we call Arabs and what we call Bedouins, so we call them Bedouin Arabs. The traditional homeland of the Bedouin Arabs is the Arabian Desert; however, some Bedouin groups have migrated north into the Negev Desert region. Qatar is one of the countries where they now reside. Most of them have given up the Bedouin lifestyle and live in urban centers.
Obstacles: There is little or no Christian witness, nor any example of living Christianity for the Najdi Arabs to see or experience.
How reach: There is a need for missionaries who are willing and able to go where the gospel is weakest and reach the Najdi Arabs in Qatar. They can use stories, poems and music that is appealing in their culture.
Pray for p g: Pray for these remote Muslims to have dreams and visions of the Risen Savior and be drawn to him. Pray for workers who are willing to learn a difficult language and produce gospel materials for these people who need to hear good news. Pray for the rapid spread of the gospel among the Nadji Bedouin Arabs in Qatar.

Summary: Sinhalese people migrated to Qatar for education or for better living and working conditions. There are many opportunities in Qatar. Sinhalese people in Qatar work in agriculture, in the oil and gas fields, in arts, sciences, education, tourism, and business. In Qatar, education from ages 8-18 is both free and academically excellent. Several universities are available.
Obstacles: The Sinhalese in Qatar are 95 percent Buddhist, and the strict Wahhabi form of Sunni Islam is the state religion in Qatar, but immigrants are allowed to practice their own religion. Proselytism is forbidden. It is very difficult to share Christ in such an environment.
How reach: Resources in the Sinhalese language include a complete Bible, an audio New Testament online, the JESUS Film, and gospel recordings. Believers can make the efforts to share these resources with the Sinhalese people.

Summary: The Ottoman Empire was a great counter-balance to British control in the Persian Gulf region in the late 1800s. While the British were establishing power in nearby Kuwait, the Ottomans send troops to Qatar to suppress a local ruler. They kept their military forces in Qatar until the Ottoman Empire collapsed, which indirectly allowed Qatar to become an independent nation even after the Turkish Ottomans left. This situation has not been forgotten, and Turkey has maintained warm relations with Qatar ever since. Turks are welcome in Qatar.
Obstacles: Islam is a strong deterrent to embracing Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. They strongly oppose the idea that Jesus can be both God and man. Muslims do not believe that any "man" can pay for the sins of another, so there can be no savior.
How reach: There are very few if any believers among the Turks in Qatar. Perhaps the Filipino guest workers in Qatar who follow Christ might have the chance to be His ambassadors.
Pray for church: Ask God to give the Turkish believers boldness to share the gospel with their own people no matter where they live.
Pray for p g: Pray that churches and mission organizations will accept the challenge of adopting and reaching the Turks in Qatar. Ask the Lord to save key leaders among the Turks in Qatar who will boldly declare the gospel. Pray for discipleship-based Bible studies to arise among Turks in Qatar that will spread to other communities.
